Could you use the template to help us with details that you intend to include in your application? What was your major, state residency, etc.?I just want to know what my chances are as I've just got my MCAT score back, I have a major upward trend with deans least for my last three semesters.

Apply broad DO and state MD
make sure you dont apply without more than 200h+ in nonclin volunteering and 200h clin volunteering
Faha/Goro may eventually come on here and provide a school list for you, however you have a low gpa/mcat combo that puts most MD's out of the question, unfortunately but you will have success DO wise if you apply broadly. Some md's I would recommend are Loyola, Tulane, and Albany off the top of my head- however all are very low yieldare there any other MD that you recommend, as my State of residence is MA and very competitive.

Thank you so much Faha, is there anything else you think I could do to make myself more competitive for those MD programs besides retakingI suggest these MD schools with your stats:
Howard
Meharry
Morehouse
UCLA Drew
UMass
Vermont
Quinnipiac
Albany
New York Medical College
Seton Hall
Drexel
Temple
Jefferson
George Washington
West Virginia
NOVA MD
Oakland Beaumont
Wayne State
Medical College Wisconsin
Loyola
Rosalind Franklin
Rush
Indiana
Creighton
TCU-UNT
The GPA-MCAT grid shows you have approximately a 50% chance for a MD acceptance. You will need to apply to DO schools also and I suggest these:
UNECOM
PCOM Georgia and South Georgia
LECOM (all schools)
VCOM (all 4 schools)
CUSOM
ACOM
ARCOM
NYIT-ARKANSAS
UIWSOM
MU-COM
UP-KYCOM
WVSOM
WCU-COM
LMU-DCOM
Apply in June and submit all your secondaries by July.
What do your SNMA/MAPS connections advise you? You may have to take more classes but I would be sure to connect with admissions recruiters who know you from SNMA/MAPS before taking drastic measures.Thank you so much Faha, is there anything else you think I could do to make myself more competitive for those MD programs besides retaking
ahh, you make a great point! I will definitely ask for there input in this regard. What do your SNMA/MAPS connections advise you? You may have to take more classes but I would be sure to connect with admissions recruiters who know you from SNMA/MAPS before taking drastic measures.

If you were to retake, your goal would be to get to 508+. Youd really bolster your app overall with that. I think you (and everyone) are capable of doing so if you prepare correctly for the exam. But to answer your question, some schools screen <500 and so yes 1pt would help you get past some more doors, but it would not be incredibly beneficial to schools that would read your app at its current state because 499 and 500 are practically the same if you look at the confidence interval of the exam... and so having 2 exams on your record with the same score doesnt look awesome.would retaking the MCAT to even just get 1 more point (500) make a diffreance ?
A lot of schools have an automatic screen that filters for mcats 500 and above. So yes a 1 point increase could potentially help you out.would retaking the MCAT to even just get 1 more point (500) make a diffreance ?

Yes, but you need to make sure your primary is all good to go by then. If you test on May 21, then take May 21-June21st to do your primary (PS, EC descriptions, MMEs, etc) you will be verified by likely July 20-25th which puts more in the "on-time category" rather than early. If you do retake however and and are on track to score much better and do actually end up scoring better, being an on-time applicant will likely work out well for you. it is also in your best interest to have a well polished primary rather than just submit to be in the early pool.ahh, I see Thanks so much this is really helpful! I'm thinking of retaking on MAY 21 would that allow me to still be considered an early applicant?

However, if your primary is already done and you just need MCAT then you can submit june 1st and get verified while you wait for your score back with no "delays"
I would prioritize MCAT studying but if you are doing a study schedule that has an off day you could use that off day to work on primary. The primary is a lot though and very important but thats a way you could chip away at it. you will inevitably go through many drafts/experience personal statement frustration etc which just kills time and if youre rushing to do your ps, that will only add to the writers block.Ok wow this all sounds great, but do you think it would be a bad decision to work on my primary along with studying for MCAT ?
@Faha @Goro @gyngyn Any thoughts on this ? and thanks so much imbesrs this was really insightful!I would prioritize MCAT studying but if you are doing a study schedule that has an off day you could use that off day to work on primary. Faha did state however that based on your race, gpa, and mcat combo, you have a 50/50 shot of getting in to MD schools. I would rather you take advice from them regarding if you should apply this cycle and focus on primary versus retaking MCAT opening options and applying perhaps a bit later (July vs June). A higher score would put you in a much better place for MD schools in general if going MD vs DO is a major concern for you and your future goals.
If you do retake mcat, make sure you use the mcat subreddit (reddit.com/r/mcat) as that tool is invaluable when prepping for the exam
np!thanks so much imbesrs this was really insightful!
No. Your EC's are good.would retaking the MCAT to even just get 1 more point (500) make a diffreance ?
That’s fair. I think you have a really good chance at getting into a DO school this cycle without retaking the MCAT. But, if this cycle is do or die for you or you are set on MD, then maybe retaking the MCAT would be a good idea. That being said, I’ll reiterate that you shouldn’t take it unless you are scoring a 508+ on your full length practice exams.@m1redsox Thanks for the input! My biggest concern is just not getting anywhere this cycle as I've been out of undergrad for 2 years now! so really want to make it count for my first time
It will have no effect. In other words, you will suffer no disproportionate effect.
Agree with my learned colleagueIt will have no effect.
