I have a 3.3 cgpa and 3.1 sgpa
I have pretty good ECs (hospital volunteering, abroad trip, research and EMT)
I am a junior and deciding where to apply. I am applying to MDs, DOs and also considering the Caribbeans. I'm not sure where I should apply considering my gpa is quite low.
Any suggestions would be extremely helpful!
thank you!

use the MSAR and school websites to choose schools that fit your stats. Focus on in state schools, private schools and some other public schools that take at least 25% of OOS. Apply to as many schools as you can afford, but try for at least 20-25. Your chances at MD schools is not great but you have a shot if your EC/other activities are very good.

Apply after your senior year with a higher GPA.

What about the Caribbeans? or DO schools
I am more interested in Osteopathic schools than Allopathic schools

Do you have a recent upward grade trend in the sciences? Have you taken any upper-level Bio, and if so, what grades did you earn? Have you retaken any low grades to invoke the DO grade replacement policy?

See SDN's International Medicine > Caribbean Forum for info on those schools.

If you're not able to raise your GPA to where you'd like/just don't get into med school, you should consider post-bacc/SMP programs as well.

I have have taken some upper level bio course and my gpa is consistent. I only received on C+ my freshmen year in chem 2 but other than that i have received As to B-'s, Mostly B's . I have not retaken any courses.

You might get into an osteopathic med school, but I would be more confident of that if you had some stronger recent grades in upper-level Bio. One advantage of AACOMAS over AMCAS, is that you can update schools about newly earned grades through the application service by submitting a recent transcript to them. If you decide to apply this summer, I'd suggest you live the application year as if you know you'll need to reapply, making every effort to earn higher grades this summer and in the fall to sway adcomms positively, meanwhile, continuing to improve your ECs.

Do you have any physician shadowing, particularly of a DO yet, to get an LOR? Any nonmedical community service? Teaching? Leadership?

Here is information to help you pick schools:

I haven't continuously shadowed any physicians. I have shadowed a couple for a day. I did mentor high school students from low income urban areas for 2 years

Than You so much for your help🙂
