MD & DO 3.7 cGPA 3.6 sGPA 502 MCAT

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
There aren't a lot of MD schools where a 26+ MCAT is going to have a lot of traction.
Adding DO schools is a strong consideration.

Any places in mind that would accept me, preferably in the north east area, but honestly, anywhere that would even look at me. Would any of the schools on my list give me a shot?

I'll be more direct than my learned colleague. Your MCAT score is lethal for MD schools. You're fine for DO except CCOM, AZCOM and the coastal Touros. I can't recommend LUCOM.

You really need to go through the MSAR and eliminate a lot of the places on your list where your MCAT is well below the 10th% (e.g. Rochester's 10th % is 29...).
It's understandable that you would want to apply to your state schools at any rate, but DO schools are going to be your better bet, unless you want to devote a considerable effort at a much higher MCAT score.

Doing DO, would I basically have my pick with schools, considering match lists and whatnot?

I don't understand your question.
Your MCAT score is not competitive for my school, and the others I listed above. But overall, your chances are good for DO.
What would my list be for DO schools then?

I was thinking at least Rowan University for in-state, and PCOM as my desired school. Not sure what other DO schools to add. Would I have a chance at Cooper Med for MD?

Cooper is your only chance at an MD school. Go for it.

For other DO schools, I recommend PCOM, Rowan, Touro-NY, NYITCOM, UNECOM, LECOM, VCOM, KYCOM, PCOM-GA, VCOM-SC, LECOM-B, Nova. These choices keep you on the East Coast and relatively close to home. If you want to cast your net wider, add MUCOM, KCOM, VCOM-AL, and maybe NYIT-COM-AR.

So I retook the MCAT and I got a 504, I'll update the breakdown and lists above. Can anyone help me set up a new list of schools?

504 is equivalent to a 28. With your previous score, you would need to find schools that matriculate a large percentage of OOS and where the 10th percentile is 27 or lower.
Your IS chances are modest but detectable. Cooper's 10% is 27, RWJ is 28 and Rutgers is 29...

So this (http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EZyoQ_4MQrU/VLjZGj4N6aI/AAAAAAAAASs/4XM0twcJ9VE/s1600/examples.png) shows my 504 as a 28, but then this (http://blog.accepted.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/MCAT-Retake-chart-144x300.png) shows my 504 as a 27. What list should I follow? or is there an official conversion rate? And what do you think of my list of schools? Is there any schools you would recommend?

Although your 504 corresponds to a 28 on the old test, your previous score will give you a perceived value more like 27 (maybe less depending on what the individual examiner expects out of a re-take). It is essentially the same score.
Morehouse and UND are mission-based schools where you don't fit the mission.
South Carolina is unlikely to consider OOS applicants in your range.

Hmm ok, so I eliminated those schools. Does the rest of the list still look like I have a chance to get in? I've been using MSAR to narrow down for those with more OOS matriculants and those that have 26-27 at 10th percentile.

AZ is accepting high stats CA applicants from what I can see.
As you are not African American or Native American, delete Morehouse and UND.
If you delete SC, the others are ok. Your best MD chances are going to be NJ, though.

So I took out UND, Morehouse, and SC. Cooper shows up as 30 matriculant MCAT for 2015. But when I look at applicants for 2016 entering class, the middle 50% applied from 495-507. Why would you even apply if you weren't even close to 30? I don't understand how to interpret the Applicants entering 2016 class with the new MCAT scores box and whiskers plot. Should I even bother applying to NJMS and RWJ? I'm creating my list of DO right now, however.

Ignore that new MCAT graph. All it gives you is a picture of who applied. Which is pretty much useless.
If you are going to apply anywhere but Cooper, it may as well be your other IS publics. They are the ones with a mandate to care for the people of NJ.

I wouldn't look at the box and whisker plots, those just show the applicants to that school, not who ended up getting accepted. You're better off converting your score to ~27-28 and using that to gauge where you fall in the chart beneath the plots. For Cooper the matriculant median is a 30 and the 10th percentile is a 27, so I think it's not a bad idea to apply there and see what happens. They value service to the underserved, so keep that in mind in your application. RWJ might be worth an application, but to be honest Rutgers-NJ loves high MCAT scores more than the other NJ schools so I don't think they are worth an application. If you have the extra $$ to spend, then throw them in there and see what happens. Apply broadly to DO programs and you should receive a few IIs there. Good luck with your applications 🙂

Best chances are with the NJ MD schools and most DO schools. I think that you have plateaued on MCAT and aren't going to improve any more. So no more retakes. And pay very careful attention: state schools favor the home team, both in NJ and elsewhere.
