There are 2 (maybe 3) schools on your list where you have a fair to good chance at an interview. You need to buy the MSAR and come up with a list that has at least 10 schools where you have a chance at an interview (your MCAT is at the 10th% for U of CO)Hello all! Longtime lurker but finally decided I need to ask what my chances are.
I am a Minnesota resident applying broadly to a few places:
University of Minnesota-Twin Cities (in-state)
University of Colorado (#1 Choice of all)
Mayo Medical school (literally live in the same town right now)
University of Virginia
Virginia Commonwealth
University of Maryland
University of Ohio-Boonshoft
Any other recommendations would be great. Also any recommendations to stop applying to a school (not qualified enough and the like) are welcome as well
Onto my stats:
sGPA: 3.8
cGPA: 3.71
MCAT: 30
Worked as an EMT on two rural ambulance services, together totaling around 2000 hours of on call time
Did light genetics research not related to health (animal biology) last semester
Shadowed two doctors:
General surgeon: 70 hours
Internal: 10
Thats more or less it. What are my chances of getting in to those schools, especially Colorado. Thank you!
Your adviser didn't mention the pre-med's most important resource?! Very disturbing.Had never heard of the MSAR. Thanks, I'll look into that! Also, I had no idea I was that low for MCAT. I had just looked at their average MCAT and saw I was a couple points low. Didnt think that would knock me that far down. Well thanks for dashing my hopes on that one. But thanks for the info nonetheless! It was quite helpful
I'm sure @Goro would be happy to give you a more informed opinion on these than I can. Do you know who Jerry Falwell is?I have also been considering DO schools very recently. Would you be able to comment on them as well?
I haven't had much time to consider much of them, but I have a few on my list. What about my chances at these? I mainly want to make sure I'm on the right track with DO schools.
Rocky Vista (RVUCOM)
Liberty (LUCOM)
Campbell (CUSOM)
Erie (LECOM)
More will come later, just haven't had time to consider much of DO schools
Goro suggests
University of Minnesota-Twin Cities (in-state)
Rush
Rosy Franklin
MCW
SLU
Creighton
Loma Linda (but read thier list of don'ts)
Tulane
U Miami
NYMC
Albany
The Philly triplets
Wake Forest
VCU
EVMS
The newest MD schools in FL and MI
TCMC
Quinnipiac
Tufts
Any DO program (CCOM and DMU are closest to home)
I cannot recommend LUCOM.
With a <avg MCAT score, I do not see any luck with state schools except your own. State schools favor the home team. I too, am appalled that your adviser is unaware of MSAR. Do your schoolmates a favor and suggest it to him/her.
