Why USF?

Florida resident?

Chances excellent! I suggest swapping out Brown (which highly favors its own) with Hofstra, Skip UNC unless you're from NC. Consider adding Hofstra, Rochester, BU, U VM, Pitt, both Mayos, and U Miami

I will definitely add some of those. Thanks!

I'm a little worried about my GPA at some of those places (especially the New York schools)

Follow up question: am I in good enough shape to apply to top 20 schools? For personal reasons, I really want to get into school in Manhattan, but those are all top tier schools--do I have a chance there?

Definitely worth a shot.

Columbia's bottom 10% is less than a 3.6, so I wouldn't be ultra concerned about it.

OK clinical/nonclinical volunteering
Solid shadowing
Above average research
Paid clinical work will be good after your glide year
Stellar stats

How involved were you with that orchestra? It's a great extra to have, definitely sets you apart from being a cookie cutter!

In a year or so I'll be applying to the same NYC schools with slightly worse stats but similar ECs as you. I'd love to get into any of them, but I'm not going to get my hopes up. I recommend the same for you!

Goodluck

Absolutely apply to the top 20. Yes, it's extremely competitive, but your application is solid, and you'll never know if you don't try. I know you might be concerned about your GPA, but my GPA is very similar to yours, and I have received 8 top 20 interviews, including two Manhattan schools -- I never would have predicted this before the cycle, and I'm so glad that I threw my app out there for so many reach schools. That said, always have a backup plan -- apply to lots of mid and lower tiers as well!
