Sooo I'm studying for the MCAT rn and I know you can't give a ton of advice without MCAT, but I'm trying to figure out what to do in my gap year(s) and how competitive I am!

I'm a senior at a highly rated large state university majoring in Molecular and Cellular Bio.
3.78 overall GPA, BCPM 3.73
Did pretty well overall but I have a few grades (Like B- in Orgo 2) that are just kind of embarrassing
In a lab since sophomore year, presented a poster, and will be third author on a paper that is currently being sent to high impact journals (nature med, cell, lowest hepatology)
Will write a senior thesis and submit for honors
Worked as a TA for all of my senior year for an intro gen chem class
~100 hours hospital volunteering, ~150 hours Habitat for Humanity volunteering and some leadership
Studied abroad and worked in a lab abroad, got name on a poster and took a master's class abroad
~50 hours volunteering with my sorority
Worked ~1000 hours for 3 years with a nonprofit as a job coach for individuals with developmental disabilities, can get very strong letter of rec from former boss
Because of this work experience and how meaningful it was for me, I got a minor in social work
~50 hours shadowing, definitely need more

I am not sure what I want to do for gap year, I am thinking about staying as a tech in my current lab but I can't tell if I need more hospital exp.
Should I scribe or look for hospital clinical research? I live in a rural-ish area and I am not sure if I can afford to move to a city for clinical research. Any advice helps though!

Staying at your current lab would probably be best because it would show continuity. Being free from school will then give you enough time to volunteer or shadow either after work or during weekends. Looking at your app, you have everything but increasing ur volunteer and shadowing hours will go a long way. Also what’s your MCAT? That’s a different story lol.
