3.89 GPA Vs. 3.90 GPA

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
OP I don't think it will matter, although I understand your concern. I was really upset when my graduate GPA dropped from 4.0 to 3.96 (thanks to an A- in a seminar🙁 and I asked the same question to med school friends, they seemed like they wanted to kill me🙂 However, I know how you feel...It was all a near perfect 3.9 and now it's in the 3.8 range right (you think it looked soooo much better)? IMO you have an amazing GPA and I think you know that, deep down. It's going to be ok. I don't think it will look that much less to them. good luck:luck: If you think about it, someone is not going to be that much better off than you because of it.
:luck:

You may not lose Latin honors either. I know it is school specific, but at my school anything over a 3.75 for UG is summa.

Hello,
I might drop to a 3.89 GPA this semester. May be, not sure. Is a 3.89 GPA much different than 3.90? I know I might lose the highest graduation latin honors with the fall in the GPA but will someone with a 3.90 GPA have a BIG edge over one who has the same stuff except a 3.89 GPA? THANKs

:wow:zomg stfu

Man what a response.
Most of us on this board have been fighting mediocre GPAs and/or MCATs for over a year , and in some cases 2,3 or even 4 years to get into med school. A response like this isn't surprising, but really you should read some of the other posts on the site to see where you stand with your 3.89, i.e near the top.

Is this true?

lol, even if it was true it's not like you have to give SDN the same e-mail address that you gave the med schools (seriously I have like 10 e-mail addresses).

And even with an IP address they'd have to subpoena your ISP to get your real name, and without you having committed a crime that wouldn't fly.

Of course I suppose if you keep checking a med school's status page, they could share IP logs with SDN and figure out who you are, but if you really think that's a possibility I suggest you ask your doctor about Valium to see if it's right for you.

Everyone here is so mean, it makes me cry. Anyway, obviously he knows that a .01 difference in GPA will not matter, what he is curious about is how much it would help to have summa cum laude or w/e on his transcript as opposed to not having it.

IMO with that strong of a GPA, not being able to list the highest latin honors on your app will not hurt you. Your still basically guaranteed acceptances to many good med schools, assuming your MCAT's are decent.

They aren't even going to look at your latin honors. Its your GPA that determines graduating with honors, honor societies, etc, etc. They'll probably look at your GPA and skim over any "graduated w/ honors" thing on your app.

This is true, but really silly. Just goes to show that most MDs get very confused when they look at numbers.
