I am an Indiana resident, ORM, attend a top 50ish state university (biology major). Here are my ECs:

- 75 Hours Hospital Volunteer
- 72 Hours Physician Shadowing (variety of specialties)
- Mission trip to Jamaica
- Freshman Orientation Leader
- 1 year of Health and Kinesiology Research
- Teaching Assistant for 1 semester of genetics lab
- Various Intramural sports
- Fraternity member (was rush chairman)

Schools I'm applying to:
- Baylor College of Medicine
- Boston University School of Medicine
- Drexel University College of Medicine
- Indiana University School of Medicine
- The Ohio State Univ. Coll. of Med.
- University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix
- University of Arizona College of Medicine-Tucson
- University of Cincinnati College of Medicine
- University of Louisville School of Medicine
- Vanderbilt University School of Medicine
- Wake Forest School of Medicine of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center

So my questions are:

What are my chances at the more competitive schools on my list (I'm really interested in Vanderbilt)?

How lacking are my ECs and will they affect my chances significantly?

Should I add/subtract any schools from my list?

Thanks for the advice.

Also, I should mention the breakdown of my 35: 14 PS, 10 VR, 11 BS. On that note, will the M in writing hurt me even in the slightest?

Really what? I know my stats are not exactly questionable, but I posted this to ask about the other aspects of my application.

It's okay, he's a dbag. Nobody likes him 😉

I have the same exact MCAT scores + subscores
I did way better than expected by at least 5 points
I feel like there has to be a mistake somehow

Haha, I'm sure it's no mistake. Did you get the M in writing as well? I don't know how I did that poorly. I'm typically a good writer and I thought that I had some great examples in my essays, wide vocabulary, and sufficient length. I'm guessing the synthesis was my downfall, but still, an M??? Oh well, it's all subjective. I just hope it won't reflect poorly on my application.

No, I don't imagine it will. You have really good stats so you might as well apply to some really competitive schools. Good luck!

I wouldn't worry about your writing section at all. It matters so little to schools that they're removing from the test outright starting in 2013.

Your numerical stats are superb; you should be more concerned with the ECs. They aren't bad by any means though, so I think you have a very good shot.

OP - your name isn't Bob Boone by any chance is it?
