The party school rankings just came out and we got the bronze. Big dissapointment, at least are the best college town still. Where are your schools ranked?

This is good interview material, they wan't to know you are having a good time 👍

Adam, I miss the good ol' UW!!! In my mind, we will always get the gold. My advice - don't graduate! 🙂

Washington Lee? :-( Such a shame, after it derives its name from two great men and disciplinarians.

I am withdrawing and getting a job with girls gone wild....and I can play darts at Mondays every day. I don't think you guys realize the choices I have to make haha

My friend who goes there sent an IM saying they beat us, I can't believe that...I can accept ASU, not this crapjack.

Once again, UK is ranked in the "Dorms Like Dungeons" category. I happen to agree.

What were the top schools? Graduating from ASU, this is really important.

Look, I like to party as much as the next girl, but when it comes to medical school, I think a few other things take priority. Like oh, grades. MY school career has been...long, to say in the least. I took kindergarten twice, squeaked by in the grades department, and down the road in college, I had to take not one, not two, not three, but FOUR different courses at least twice. Two of those courses I had to enroll THREE times in, only to get the exact same grade I originally received in it. I had to learn how to study in college (long LD sob story).

I would ****ing KILL to have an academic life as easy as you guys. Of course, I know there are plenty of people who have it worse off, or don't have the luxury of school, but still. Sometimes you 4.0 people shine as bright as the sun on paper, but when it comes to the science, when it comes to the passion and unquenchable curiosity to know and love what you study, you guys are clueless.

Come on, people. "Where is your school ranked in the party list?" Do the world a favor and drop out, so that people who actually go to med school for their love of science can get the education they deserve.

Cynically,
Ritalingirl

WTF? LOL. . first of all, WE'RE not ranking 'em. They've been ranked.

Secondly, lighten up little gunner. Didn't you know? All doctors and med students need to use speed, smoke, and upon graduation buy a gun and airplane. It's a right of passage.

Did you take a look at his stats? His scores in the PS and BS sections are very strong. I don't think he's as clueless as you think he is...

In response to ritalingirl and all those who think like her...

Med school is going to be a lot of work. Sure, we all love science, we all love the fmedical field. But there is more to life. Did you do nothing besides study during your undergrad? If you did, expect to burn out in med school. I was able to get decent grades, decent MCATs, research, volunteer, TA, cheer my football team to a ninth place finish in the Pac-10, and have many a good time with my friends. I've learned to relax and have fun without letting my love of science consume my life.

If science is all you live for, I hope you have an exciting life with a microscope somewhere. For the rest of us, let us have a nice life among people and fun. I know my patients will appreciate my love for humanity and not just my love for science.

no, you dont.

UF is 11...I'm sure we can do better than that! If I get an acceptance early on, I can guarantee I'll raise that at least 3 places. 👍

not on the list, michigan is laame

Anyone have a link to the listings? 😛

My school is probably not even on the top 1000 list, but a neighboring school - San Diego State - came in as number six. Not bad, not bad at all.

P.S. I hope I see ritalingirl at a party some day, so I can laugh at her. Dork.

Where is this frickin list?

BTW, don't you guys no that doctors are only allowed to study all the time. If youj drink and/or have a life outside of studying you will be a horrible doctor.

Exactly. Having a life is major negative points to adcoms.

(According to the Princeton Review)

1. SUNY-Albany
2. Washington and Lee Univ.
3. Univ. of Wisc.-Madison
4. West Virginia Univ.
5. Ohio Univ.-Athens

There they are. Whatever happened to the party powerhouse like Florida and Arizona St.?

Princeton Review doesnt only suck for review courses.

I'm pretty sure people are talking about their undergrad schools, not med schools. I don't think there is a party school ranking for med schools at all. And just because someone does well in school doesn't mean they have it easy. Getting a 4.0 is hard work, even at a "party school." Just because you're doing well doesn't mean you lack passion and curiosity. In fact, most people take high academic acheivement as a sign of passion and curiosity, as well as dedication. And since when is raw intellectual ability a bad thing? I always thought that it was something valuble to society, but according to you, people who have it are just wastrels.

And yes, it frustrates me that intelligent people can so willingly kill off their valuable brain cells through substance abuse, but that's their choice. And I don't think celebrating your school's place on the party school rankings is a sign that one is a full-blown addict. Sometimes it's just amusing. And as for going to med school for love of science, I think if this is the only reason, it's a bad one. Med students get a rather watered down version of science, and if you are only in it for this, you won't really enjoy the clinical aspect and you won't be fully respected by the real scientists, unless of course you have a Ph.D. I would suggest that you look at Ph.D. programs, but be warned, they too like to party, so try to lighten up a little.

Some people seem to be bitter they can't party like rock stars and still get good grades. I could have had a 4.0, but I would rather spend some of my time helping making us #1!

Even our scientists in the labs here have kegs on friday, research also goes hand in hand with getting smashed. I would imagine even the girl from Columbia who is in olympics still parties...

You know, I don't think smoking up hurts your brain...I think it makes your brain cells more creative. I'm sure you've also heard of the buffalo theory....when drinking the slow brain cells get killed off and make the herd faster.

Funny. Sad. If you could manage to get the job done the first time, maybe you would have more time to enjoy yourself. When you have your first trauma patient come on your ER rotation, are you going to have three chances to get that right. Don't preach to me about "love of science". Your post gets the record for the worst post EVER. I have nothing positive to say. WOW!!!

Florida's becoming way too serious. I mean, kibbles, did you see our average SAT score??? That's gotta drop us a couple of points right there.

Anyway, does anyone know where Florida placed academically? And please don't stone me for asking. And by stone, I mean actual rocks, not pot.

Carry on party people.

ever notice how its usually the dumbest people who are the biggest gunners? Go ahead, disguise the fact that you arent too bright behind a "passion for science". I'll be the guy who goes out and has a good time, plays sports, has a GF, and still owns your ass on an Orgo exam

Cerb,

No way man, you cant classify based on things like grades, test scores or achievements. The lib arts major with the 1.2 GPA still knows way more science than you, its just "street smarts" chemistry.

I respect your passion for medicine ritalingirl, but always keep in mind that we're entering medicine to serve patients. Keep your head up high and I hope to see you in medical school.

Wow. You have a love of science, don't like party schools, and put your priorities in your grades. Yet you STILL had to take FOUR different courses at least TWICE?! Why don't you do us a favor and drop out, so we don't have to worry about being treated by a physician that's a boring idiot.

We are in the top 5 public universities every year....we party hard and study hard!

Couldn't have been said any better 👍

RitalinGirl

I hope you are never my doctor. People like you make the thought of going to medical school unpleasant.

Enjoy that "life" there.

I think I figured it out. Troll.

Oh, I am sure she is a troll . . . anyhow I found it funny although a bit pretentious that she thought that academics were easier at a party school. Afterall, organic chemistry is the same whether you take it at Harvard or SUNY-Albany (unless there is some kind of different Organic Chem for Ivy students that I don't know about). She might be trying to argue that there is more grade inflation at the party schools but that is easily disproved with the lower GPA averages for the student body at the party schools compared to the Ivies. It seems it is probably just as hard to do well in the party schools. The fact that she had to take a class 3 times just proves that she would of had trouble no matter where she went.

UWisc, Mich, and other schools are way better than the iveys. They are filled with mediocore rich kids...(Bush etc). They do have the allstars...but as a whole for a traditional student I think the top non ivy schools are better.

I think that all the schools are about the same for undergrad . . . unless you are actually doing research every school provides the same education (as I said Organic Chem taught in undergrad is the same everywhere). As for graduate or medical education the school you attend matters more since your research or clinical experiences will be different depending on where you go and who teaches there.

Woah, hate to be the one to say something realistic here. Ivy's are filled with the hardest working/smartest rich kids, while schools like Wake Forest are filled with the mediocre rich kids you want to hate on so much. Oh, where else do the mediocre richies go? The big state schools. Last time I checked, UNC had 30-40%% of it's ugrad population coming from households that made more than 100,000 bucks. And in NC, thats quite a bit of money. I bet you could find this type of information about Wisconsin as well.

As far as social life? Any public school wins hands down. Period.

Bingo. Umich undergrad for instance gets A LOT of NYers and affluent Detroit suburbanites who didn't get into MIT or the Ivies. Then they bitch about how Ann Arbor is so inferior to NYC.

So true...I could do without all the jappy east coast kids around here that think they're better than everyone else.

as a fellow UW-Madison student.. I can vouch.. there's times you will see Devin Harris (Ex-Madison Basketball Star.. now in NBA after withdrawing from school.. don't blame him for that contract).. and your research partners from China at the same party...

Hell.. #1/2 public research school (back and forth between UC-Berkley.. depends on the year) yet #3 party school?? You can't go wrong with that..

but the best.. is there's no cars needed in Madison.. we got a street where no cars are allowed called State Street.. You can get wasted as you want.. walk 2 blocks back to your apt.. sleep it off.. and then take your exam the next day...
if you're good... you know how to study hard and party harder and the exams come easy..

lol.. madison has it's fair share of them too.. not so many d-town's but NYC and east coast jewish population is like 25% of madison.. at least in the social circles that are out on the town...

they're fun people that add to the flavor of the town though..
but they can spend me under the table with their daddies' credit cards paid by lawyer/doctor salaries.... 🙁
oh well.. wait til i'm a doctor 🙂
