After talking to a friend, I just got to thinking how much easier med school would be if the pre-clinical year was 3 years instead of 2. The main issue most of us have in pre-clinicals is the volume of material. By doing a 3 year pre-clinical you'd significantly reduce the # of classes taken at one time.

What do you guys think? Wouldn't a 3 year pre-clinical make things MUCH easier?

This would be very useful considering the poor and minimally regulated clinical years in osteopathic schools.

You want to spend as little time as possible on that background info most of which you will forget or have to relearn (when it's relevant). The process is already long enough.

Actually, in allopathic clerkships they actually have standards of education and teaching which continually expose you to "background info"... i.e. medicine. In D.O. clinical years its as simple as "oh your a private physician and want to take students(for some reason?), great! we'll send medical students to shadow you bc that=learning.....and we'll still get our 40+grand...great plan."

Good medical schools have didactics 1-2 times per day at their clinical sites...Not going to name names but some DO schools have this...most do not. All MD schools do and that's one reason why they consider the DO clinical training to be inferior.

Seriously? I'd love to have only 1.5 years of pre-clinical or even 12 months straight like Duke. I regularly attend clinical didactic sessions and found them to be much more relevance to my education.

I am skeptical that twice daily didactics are typical for MD students on rotations.

I said 1-2/day. Normally, there is a "morning report" and then noon didactic. I had this as a DO at my core site.
