Hello!
I hate medical schools admissions.
However, I am going to do it. But I have a little problem... a bunch of the schools I want to apply to require that I have all the basic requirements from the US. I do have one year study here, but I took classes other than pre-requisites. So here is my question - considering that I have my MS from the UK in medicinal chemistry with a smattering of quantum physics thrown in, is it possible to take all the pre-requisites in one semester - just turning up for exams and handing in essays and all that? Has anyone done this? I work full time but can get "sick leave" for exams and things, and don't mind working my butt off.
There has got to be at least one crazy person who has done this!

There are people who take all their basic sciences in a year, but never have I heard of one taking all of his prereqs in a semester. Good luck, but I would advise you to reconsider.

I would advise that you rethink this, as well.

In fact, it is possible that you may not be able to do this because some of the pre-med pre-reqs have pre-reqs of their own. You may be able to get special permission to override this (i.e. taking organic chemistry before having finished general chemistry), but that be another hurdle to jump over if you really want to do this.

I obviously can't speak for more than just my school, but here...you have to petition to go over 18, and they won't allow you to take more than 24, total, no matter what...and they won't even let you go THAT high unless you've held a 4.0, perfect attendance record, and performed three miracles during your previous (at least) two semesters. If you're taking science pre-reqs, which are generally 4 credits each, 32 credits is EIGHT science classes, all of which have a lab and various attendance policies...you might get a few unsympathetic professors and your life will be a living hell. As for 60 credit hours in one semester? It's not possible. Even if you know everything cold, you have to go to at least a few lecture sessions to find out the expectations of the class, and what happens if you triple book every time slot and have tests in all of your classes on one day?

I understand that you want to get on with it, and get going to med school as soon as possible, but take it slow and easy - don't load yourself down and get mediocre grades because you're too stressed to even breathe. 4 science classes is just about the maximum that is humanly possible and even that's a bit excessive. 😵

Good luck, whatever you do.
