the figure 100k seems ideal. nurses don't get paid as much as dentists [save for nurse anesthestists, but that requires extra years of schooling in order to attain a BSN and experience], lol. teachers don't either. i respect both professions though. i've had varied experiences with teaching over the years [teaching assistant at my university, private tutor, SAT/AP prep instructor], and i definitely like the work. i've also worked as a live-in caregiver for several months [i thought the experience would be invaluable]. still, beyond just the value of money itself, certain freedoms and the security to my family that money can provide is more important than rewarding myself with a satisfying profession. there are other career pathways that could lead to more lucrative careers than those in dentistry, pharmacy, and medicine, but I feel like there is a more clearly-paved road to becoming a dentist, pharmacist, or doctor than to becoming some rich businessman.
also, you can make a lot of money and still genuinely care for the well-being of others... they aren't mutually exclusive. bill gates. oprah. etc.
