Hi all,

I took the June MCAT, and received a 30 (10-10-10) M 😕

I recently graduated with honors (strong upward trend, started pre-med track at the end of sophomore year) from a well-known "New Ivy League" university, a double major in Anthropology and Biology. I have extensive experience with hospital volunteering (during high school and college), over a year of lab research at my school, and was an RA for ~2 years. I have also shadowed over 70+ hrs. at a large hospital by my school. My LORs are strong, and come from 4 professors (2 of whom I have done research with), and a physician that I shadowed.

I am satisfied with my MCAT score, except for the writing sample. I know for a fact that I can write - I had no other choice being an Anthro major (My senior thesis was health-related, and got me department honors). My guess is that the time constraints for the essays left my writing a bit superficial, but I'm not here to make excuses.

With what I have mentioned, what are my chances at the following schools?

EDIT: I have revised the list

SUNY (Stony Brook, Buffalo, Downstate, Upstate)
Albany
NY Med College
Drexel
Jefferson
GW
Tulane
Vermont
EVMS
Michigan State

Would you have any other recommendations? I am a bit worried about the M that I received, as you can tell. I am a resident of NY, if you haven't guessed already. Thanks for all of your help.

I hear you about the writing sample. I ended up with a 33M. I thought I was a pretty good writer. From what I have found, it doesnt hold as much weight as the other sections...

Posted via Mobile Device what is this new ivy league that you speak of? Nice split on the mcat I can't say the same for myself. Lol

Hey...I have a very similar app. I did not even think of medicine as a career until the end of my sophomore year and didn't declare a major until then either. My MCAT/writing sample was 32M (10ps,11vr,11bs) and I have always recieved high marks on my writing samples. The schools I am applying to are all the same as you, except since I am an Oregon resident I am applying to OHSU. I am also applying to Tulane and Creighton and other private schools

Your MCAT score overall is decent. Writing sample usually does not play a big role in the admissions process as long as you write a wonderful PS and secondary essays.

I believe Michigan State, EVSM, and Vermont take mostly instate, so it might be a little more difficult to get in.
