Hi Everyone! I got a 34M on the MCAT (13 PS, 11-BS, 10-CR)--I was told by my PreMed Advisor at my school that if I do not retake the MCAT to improve my Writing Sample score I should plan on having a very strong personal statement and take another English class. I have already taken an English course and received an A...in addition I attend a liberal arts college and half of my classes heavily writing-based though not necessarily listed by the English department. Do you think it is necessary to take another English class to prove that I can write? Or will my past classes support this?

I have a 3.68 GPA

I also got an M and was very concerned. I was told most schools don't bother with it.

I'm not sure why you would need to prove yourself in class when your application/secondaries will have much writing on them.

i second all of these. I too got an M and have received a lot of interview invites. The M doesn't matter as long as you don't reaffirm it with poorly written PS/Secondaries

I got an L. Twice. Still got an interview at Medical College of Georgia though.

Don't know what the deal was... I was an English major for most of college, but ended up with a minor. I've taken some tough English courses such as Faulkner and Shakespeare. I had to write a ton of papers and I got an A on most of them. All this while at Emory, which is ranked the #1 best American college for writers (http://www.usatodayeducate.com/staging/index.php/the-10-best-american-colleges-for-writers).

In the end, I think adcoms will determine your writing ability more on your personal statements + essays rather than a silly mcat writing score..
