I apologize, this belongs more to the military dentistry page, but this pre-dental page seems to get much more traffic.

Last my recruiter told me, there were only 11 4 yr Army HPSP Scholarships remaining after the first two boards. This last board was held March 22. I was just curious if anyone else on here is up for this set of boards or if they heard any news on it? (whether you received🙂, waitlisted:scared:, non-select😡, etc.)

I was in this past round of boards and I haven't heard anything back yet. My recruiter said that I should hear within the next week or two. I'm nervous! Not sure how many they have left...

I'm going through the process right now and my recruiter didn't even tell me that there are 11 spots left..
I just basically had my physical exam this past week and got all my application material in last week. so does this mean I'm too late and I'm out of luck?

So I just heard from my recruiter and the results came back, kind of...

There were a total of 19 people up for this Mar 22 board. There were two non-selects and four wait-listed- the names of these individuals have been given and they know their outcome.

No one apparently has been selected outright.

The remaining thirteen candidates, of which I am one, are in a more nebulous state. We haven't been given an up or down, but seem to be on the verge of one. We also all seem to be awaiting the return of our scrolls with no definite answer. There are 11 scholarships available, but my recruiter mentioned the possibility they might have shuffled some cash around to make available 13. Is anyone else in this situation? Can anyone else shed some light on this?

:luck:

xsuzx... There is another board apparently in a few months, but it doesn't award any 4 yr scholarships (as all of them will be expended). Rather, you will either be a non-select or put on the wait list for a 3 yr HPSP scholarship (or, if everything goes as it did last year, possibly be awarded on Oct. 1 a 3.5 yr scholarship with a 4 yr service obligation)

Why would someone be a "non-select", that is under what conditions are people rejected? I assumed there was great need for dentists/MDs?

Non-Selects have stats below what the Army considers competitive. In previous years, it had trouble filling spots, but with a greater awareness of the benefits of service in the military, the rising costs of dental school, and a greater apprehension to take out large sums of loans, they fill all their scholarship spots and then sum. Even though it is the US military, there is a finite amount of scholarship funding.

Generally, non-selects have DATs around 16, 17, maybe 18 this year.... I can't speak to MDs, with regard to dentists, there is no dearth of dentists that I am aware of.

Thanks for the update 👍

If this is true, my recruiter is the worst..
he hasn't said anything to me yet and he made it sound like me and the two other ppl who had physical exams w me were gonna get the scholarship for sure. I'm so confused as to what's happening.. and he rarely responds to my emails... :'(

Reviving this thread. I STILL haven't heard back about the Army HPSP I applied to in March... Recruiter is now saying July 15 is the golden date... Anyone else been updated or awarded the Army scholarship as of now? I applied for the 4 year btw...
