so, now that i have - ahem - graduated from the seventh level of step 1 hell, i have the lovely pleasure of moving here, to a new forum. i feel like one of the big kids now.

anyway, so i thought i'd start up a roll call to see who we have around here. we did this in the EM forum a while back and, believe it or not, its how i met a great friend.

so, me: 26 year old male. originally from alaska, background in clin neuropharm, kayaker, skier, climber, med school in the holy land of israel (i still can't believe it live in the middle east. crazy). i *think* i want to do EM. excited about 3rd year . . .

Meh, what the hell I'll bite.

I'm a 24 y/o gay white dude from Nevada, now stuck in Texas for going on 7 years. I did a lot of research in protein chemistry in college, got published, blah blah blah. I have no interesting hobbies, but i do have 13 pets. I think I'd like to do Pathology, but medicine (specifically heme/onc) and pediatrics are also contenders. I'm split on MS3. I HATED it when I was on OB/Gyn but I love Child Psych, which I'm on now. I'm cautiously optimistic about the rest of the rotations.

I'll bite too 🙂

I'm 24, came to medical school right after college. I'm from Columbus OH, went to Notre Dame and was a philosophy major, and now I'm in med school in Cincinnati. I'm getting married in June which will probably throw and interesting wrinkle into my 3rd year. I enjoy reading, running, and cooking.

I have no idea what I want to do when I grow up. I loved pathology but I'm not sure I want to do it as a career. I just finished psych which I enjoyed and am starting ER on Monday. MtMed I'll let you know how it goes!

Fineeee. But only because you asked nicely.

I'm a 24-year-old female from SoCal. Between undergrad/med school, I've been at UCLA for 7 years, and, God-willing, will stay for residency. I love movies, the gym, watching college sports, and musicals. I'm on my surgery rotation and am loving it, but it's not for me. Currently toying with the idea of radiology.

24 yo male from TX. My time is spent either at the school or the gym. I do not enjoy cardio. I like going out with my friends like any normal person, and I enjoy watching football and trashy reality shows on TV. Possibly interested in an IM subspecialty, although I'm keeping an open mind.

*Borat voice* VERY NIIICE! 👍

I am a 24yo male and I go to University of New Mexico SOM. I was born and raised in NM and plan to go elsewhere for residency. I enjoy cycling, movies, and watching tv. I am currently trying to decide between Neurosurgery and Orthopaedic surgery. They are completey on opposite ends, but I love both. Currently on my IM rotation and have surgery next.

25 year old at The University of Miami. Looking for a career in EM or surgery. I learned last week that rounding four times in a row is boring, and I have made it my mission in life to avoid any sort of permanence in this situation.

Well, why not.

I'm a 25 yo female and I go to Jefferson in Philadephia. I'm almost done my psych rotation, which I really enjoyed. I still think I'd like to do ID or endocrine, though, but we'll have to see. I have OB/gyn next.

I like reading, cooking, art, foreign languages, and trying to improve my Spanish whenever I can.

Worst moment of 3rd year so far: The patient who was 90% deaf. I tried giving her my stethoscope and talking into it, but she has sensorineural hearing loss, so that didn't work. I tried writing out my questions, but her glaucoma made it impossible for her to read. To top it all off, she had diabetic foot ulcers and a toe that will probably need to be amputated within 4-6 months. The smell started filling the room, which was unfortunate, because the interview lasted a good 2-3 hours.

Best moment of 3rd year so far: Having one of my patients smile with delight when I walked into his room to talk to him every morning, and treat me like a surrogate grandchild.
