Hi all! I'm applying this cycle (submitting by June 1st), and I'm having difficulty making a school list. I would appreciate any feedback/recommendations!
cGPA/sGPA: 4.0
MCAT: 516 (128, 127, 129, 132)
Major: Biochemistry
Undergrad: Full-ride to public CA state university, graduated in May 2019
Residence: California
Other: White female, first in family to go into medicine
Clinical Experience
- 5200 hours of paid ED scribing with additional 400 hrs of leadership roles within the program
- 300 hours hospice volunteering with patients
Research
- 750 hours chemistry research at my undergrad. Presented 2 posters at a local conference and submitted a senior thesis
Shadowing
- 30 hours split between interventional cardiology and neurosurgery. I was planning to also shadow in pediatrics and general surgery but these were cancelled due to COVID
Non-clinical volunteering
- 80 hours at various community events
- 40 hours peer tutoring in chemistry
Leadership
- 150 hours as Co-President of university's pre-med club x1 year
- 250 hours as Vice Chair of a Board of Directors relating to a few facilities on my campus x2 years. I led an oral presentation on our campaign strategies at a regional conference
Publications
- First author of a clinical image report that I worked on with physicians and submitted to a peer-review journal. Hasn't been accepted yet but I'm crossing my fingers that it will be within the next week or so. If not, I'll try to mention it on my secondaries!
Letters of rec
- Committee letter: probably strong
- Volunteer coordinator: very strong
- ED physician: strong
- Research PI: probably good but not great
Hobbies
- Taught myself piano during college
Other
- Organic chemistry award from university
- Various merit scholarships
School list so far (planning to apply to ~ 25)

I'd like to either stay in California or live in a big city, but I'm having a hard time differentiating between a lot of the mid-tier schools in bigger cities. Hoping to apply to ~ 25. Thanks in advance for your help!!
