so this is kind of depressing. i've been to 4 interviews, each of which i thought went pretty well but on dec 1 i was surprised to find that i had not been accepted anywhere. i have my 5th interview coming up with NOVA on friday and this may be my last chance at getting into dental school this year. for each interview so far, i have used sdn to prep for possible questions and have not been caught off guard by any question. i was not nervous or anything at any interview and walked out of each interview feeling confident of an acceptance. i can't seem to figure out what i'm doing wrong. any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

5 interviews... I wouldn't freak out or get depressed until April. Just relax and sit tight, you'll hear soon. I think that if your stats are good enough to warrant 5 interviews, at least one school will grant you an acceptance.

thanks supertank..i guess i'll just have to wait it out

I'm in the same boat. Hang in there... (easier said than done, I know!) I had two pre-Dec 1st interviews, one just after Dec 1st, and now one scheduled for January.. no acceptances as of yet..... I guess you just have to have faith that what's meant to be will be..

which 4 schools did u interviewed?.. i hope everything work out for u

i agree with above posters.
there will be lot of fluctuation as people decline and second round (January 15th and after because that's the deadline for people to either accept and put deposit or be declined if no deposit is made).
5 total interviews, i won't be too worried. I know you want it now but don't worry, it'll feel just that much better when you get that letter

vcu, nyu, mcg, and indiana

I have a friend who got into UCLA and Maryland, but not heard from VCU yet.
I have another friend who got into NYU, but not heard from VCU yet.
I had VCU interview before december, but not heard from VCU yet.

I don't know much about NYU. Most ppl who had interview there got in as far as I know. But it seems you have to be patient with VCU.

okay cool thanks everyone..i feel a little better about all this

im curious how much interviews count

do they hold everyone who gets an interview on fair ground or do those who have better stats get more leeway?

I had what I thought was a really good interview but then I was waitlisted. It was my best interview by far. Then again my stats were probably on the lower end of the attendees that day.

One of the schools I interviewed with, I heard 50% of the decision came from the interview. With that said, I found that when I came in with good questions (e.g. Faculty to Student ratios in clinics, patient availability, etc.) to ask my interviewers, they seemed very impressed. If anything, I caught them off guard. I think they enjoy that kind of two-way interview; it sets you apart from other applicants. Good luck to you.

Yeah, you definetly want to be the person who sticks out in the interviewers mind, not just the people who are "ok." Remember that at many schools your interviewer is your sole representative to the admissions committee, so you need to give them a reason to fight for you.

Good luck, and I think if you sit tight and wait, you'll hear back from someone. I thought NYU went way late into the cycle usually.

Definitely ensure your answers are personal and give EXAMPLES. Like if you say your strength is you're hardworking (very generic, try not to use this as your strength)...say, "Well, I think I'm very hardworking because, I've done XYZ.." Examples make it real and paint them a picture. Always give an example where appropriate. Also, the example leads them to believe your answer is not rehearsed--you don't want to come off as rehearsed and robotic. Make it a discussion, don't sound robotic and make it interrogative.

I'm not saying you did any of this, their just things I noticed helping my friends prepare interview. I used to work in the "real world" so I did many interviews and mock interviews prior to that. The single biggest advice I took away from mock interviews was the example factor.

Also, I don't think it would be a deal breaker, but I'm firm believer in Thank You letters (emails). A short thoughtful note showing your interest and thanking the for their time. They have to interview us in addition ot their regular work load.

Good luck! Stay positive!

Did you get waitlisted or denied? Keep your chin up, you still have good chances of being admitted in 2nd, 3rd or even last min call up. There's always hope!!! Call the schools once in a while to check up with your application to let them know you're interested in their programs.

Man i'm with you...i got one interview at marquette and i'm "on hold" so just waiting it out!

basically what i tried to do at the interviews was try to focus on the interests of the interviewers and ask them questions such as about their research, their background etc. This way, you get the interviewer to talk and keep the flow going (and they wont stop to ask you standard questions). I always tried to ask questions right after I finished my responses

i got waitlisted at nyu and will be considered for an alternate position at indiana later. apparently nyu does not actually have a ranking system on their waitlist? i just had my interview with nova today. i just can't tell if the interview went well or not. waiting sucks.

NYU has a long waitlist but they will interview for while yet so there would be no movement on waitlist until Feb when second round of deposits comes....
there is lot of movement for NYU due to being so expensive so movement will be going well into spring.. this is based on last years experience
