hello guys, i really need help with my situation. I'm currently a junior with a 3.6 over all GPA and 3.5 GPA in all prereq. I have 4 W's and a F on my transcript. all of the W's i got were for a a strong reasons. A W in a class that is not even a college credit course like REA0008. The other classes I had W in were repeated expect of one and got A and a B. The F i had was because of some serious problems i went through and i had it in the same semester i had a W in one of the courses. The course i had a F in was repeated and i meant to retake it with the same professor (incase if i get questioned) and i had an A in it. currently im preparing for my DAT, and im planning on taking it on july, and im studying really hard for it. Also, im going to apply to the 4 podiatry schools (the once that accept the DAT), but before i do all of that, i really need an advise. Should i continue, or ami wasting time doing all of this? will the W's and the F be the reason for the rejection?...please respond. Thank you

If you want to prove you can handle to curriculum take the MCAT. You will answer more questions and quiet more critics by doing that, on top of increasing the number of schools that you will be eligible to attend.

are you plannin on podiatry as a backup for dental schools?

That's gonna be tough. I agree, take the MCAT.

I agree. You will need to take the MCAT to prove that you can handle the science curriculum in podiatry school. If you're taking the DAT and applying to podiatry school, even I'll think that you're applying to pod school as a backup.

well i have volunteer hours in both fields, and i actually love both fields and what they do. Thats why i chose the DAT so i can apply to both dental and podiatric schools.

Take the MCAT. God willing it will be the required test soon enough and it will certainly benefit you on paper.

yea man take both

I was interested in the dental and podiatric fields and found it was real easy to take the DAT and the MCAT in the same summer

okay, I'm already taking a kaplan course for the DAT, and after reading ur msg, i will take both tests (DAT and MCAT) during the summer, but is there any subject on the MCAT that is different from the DAT and needs more concentration, and is it somewhat similar to the DAT or way different ?

physics for sure

and writing... but that section doesnt really matter too much

My good friend and I studied together while she was prepping for the DAT, and me the MCAT. IMO, they differ in a few ways:
-structure: the entire DAT consists of multiple choice questions that are based on all science info (except the perceptual section), whereas the questions int he MCAT are broken up into short blurbs of information on a topic, followed by MC questions that are some new info from the blurb you read, and some standard science info. There are also a few stand alone MC questions sprinkled in the MCAT.
-content: you need physics and Ochem 2 for the MCAT, you don't need physics for the DAT, and only need select mechanisms from Ochem 2. The DAT has a perceptual ability section, the MCAT has a writing section.
-administration: I took the MCAT when it was written-test-only, so someone else can better advise on what it's like to take it via computer. The DAT is computer-only and offered almost every day of the year.

Good luck!

I have studied for both and I am currently studying for the MCAT....I think the MCAT is a more rigorous exam and requires a little more brain ...

With the DAT the questions are rather straight forward, you can just regurgitate information you memorized....

With the MCAT you have to not only memorize things but must also learn how to take the actual exam...you must study the material AND the exam....like TheBee stated, you get short blurbs or passages and you must extract information from these passages and piece together an answer....

I am taking it on April 19th, until then I am taking 2 diagnostic exams/week because I need to better learn how to take the exam...all my friends who have taken it told me to split up my studying with 1/2 practicing and 1/2 material learning/memorization....makes sense to me!

👍

I just posted this to add to the post before mine...

what about the GRE are there any comments about it?

If you want to get your Masters or PhD, take the GRE.

If you want to get your DDS, take the DAT.

If you want to get your OD, take the OAT.

If you want to get your JD, take the LSAT.

If you want to get your DO, MD, or DPM, take the MCAT.

It makes no sense why any school would accept crossover. The tests are not equivalent. When it comes to taking the boards, are you going to see if you can sit for the bar instead, or ask if you can submit a thesis?

has anyone gotten in that submitted DAT scores instead of MCAT scores?

Yes, I did (Temple and Barry accepted me outright w/my DAT and if i want to go to Ohio/Scholl, I have to take the MCAT, which I'm doing since I liked Ohio....I could see myself at either Temple or Ohio, so either school would be fine with me)......Scholl/Ohio gave conditional acceptances though
