4 year MD/ MPH programs

Does anyone know how many of the schools that have this joint degree are 4 year programs? Thanks.

tulane is a 4 year MD/MPH program. i don't know about other schools though.

The Mount Sinai MD/MPH degree is a 4-year integrated program.

NYMC has a four year dual program, but it's totally unintegrated. You're essentially attending two schools simultaneously. I kinda like it that way though...

Yale, along with most MD/MPH programs, takes 5 years. You shave off a year (of the 2 year MPH program) by doing the MD, but you still have to take a year of MPH classes.

Duke probably has the best program in the country among the MD/MPH programs that run in four years.

Duke Med and Carolina MPH. What more would you want?

MPH = Masters in Public Health; basically it just opens more doors... however, working in public health right now, I see MANY people with only an M.D., so if you're getting the M.D. I'm not sure that an MPH is altogether necessary to go into public health.

Of those programs, which do you have to apply for at the same time? I called GW to see if you can apply for the MPH part after being accepted into their MD program - no can do. You pretty much gotta commit to the MPH program when you apply for the regular MD.

Gotta agree with ya here. about 80% of the MD's I've seen in public helth don't have the MPH degree. The one that I do know for sure has it is an MD/MPH/MBA and he still has the same lame county job. 😴

For those that are considering an MD/MPH - 4,5 or 6 year - did you mark "regular MD" on the AMCAS?

Aside from GW I havent heard of any schools that make you commit to the MPH...

Actually, from what little research I have done into the dual-degree thing, it seems at most places you apply for the second degree program during your first year (MD/PhD programs being the exception).

For more info, check out the MPH forum. In terms of applying to MD or MD/MPH, depends on the school. If it's a joint degree and you need to apply to the MD/MPH as a unit, then do that. Most places just have you submit an app (sometimes just a formality) to the MPH program after your 1st or 2nd year in med school.

At UConn you can do the MPH with your MD in 4 years.
