You have a good GPA and ECs for both MD and DO schools. Obviously your low MCAT scores of 490 and 492 are a major weakness and you should not apply with those scores. The GPA-MCAT grid shows you have a ~10% chance for a MD acceptance. Increase your MCAT to 500 and that goes up to 70% !. You will need to retake the MCAT but do not retake until your practice scores are consistently 505 and higher. That may require much studying of the material.

Just recently got MCAT score back of 492..practice tests were 501. WAMC for DO (or MD) or SMP? Should I just try to retake MCAT next year or end of September 2020? Feeling really defeated by this test... =/ Please help! Need advice
Retake the MCAT. Do NOT retake until you are 100% ready for it.

IF test taking anxiety is an issue, that's fixable.

We need URM doctors, but no med school is doing you any favors by admitting you when you're in the risk zone for failing out and/or failing Boards.
The alternative would be forget the MCAT and do an SMP. I have many students in my SMP who do that.

@Faha @Goro Thank you for your responses..I really appreciate it!! I will definitely retake/conquer the MCAT and only retake it once I'm ready.

Go for it! You definitely have a shot at most D.O schools.
I sincerely hope OP can make it into school, but applying with a 490 to 492 MCAT repeat may not be in their best interest, which may lead to loss of money and time, even at DO schools. Good luck OP!

@Faha and @Goro I just received my third mcat score of a 499 - 124/124/125/126. I submitted my primary app for amcas 2 weeks ago and I'm still waiting for my official transcript to arrive at aacomas. Which schools should I apply to for MD or DO? thank you

For DO schools I suggest these:

I agree with Faha

@Faha and @Goro I just received a pre-II R from TUNCOM as they have a hard cut-off for MCAT scores less than 500. I just wanted to let you guys know if you weren't aware of the cut-off.

I'm now starting to wonder how many of these schools from the recommended school list do I GENUINELY have a decent chance of getting an interview at? I'm still writing secondaries and would like to know since submitting them to my final list of 34 schools is financially burdensome =/

You could receive interviews at any of them. Do not base your strategy on a rejection from one school. The GPA-MCAT grid shows you have a ~60% chance for a MD acceptance and it would be higher for DO schools. The median MCAT for AA applicants admitted to DO schools is 498 and you have a 499.

Okay I see. I will keep the faith! Thank you for your feedback. I genuinely appreciate you and @Goro for helping out the pre-med community.

Hi @Faha what grid do you use by any chance? Is it Table A-23 from the AAMC? A 3.4/499 is a 18.2 if I read it right

You need to use the grid for AA applicants- A24.2 . It has not been updated since 2015. There is also one under SDN Success rate charts in this section of SDN. Your 499 MCAT is approximately 25 on the old MCAT.
