Is it possible to schedule 4th year clerkships not on AT? I ask because I am applying to Family in the Navy and I would like to do a clerkship at each hospital but we are only allowed one AT per fiscal year. I have seen civilian students rotating at military hospitals. Does anyone know if there is a separate application process?

Thanks in advance

You can request to do clerkships as a civilian medical student. The key is to have a memorandum of understanding between the Navy hospital and your school. These are not difficult to do, but can take some time. Contact the gme coordinator at the hospitals you are considering. The application process for the clerkship is the same as if you were going on AT.

It certainly is (or was) in the Army. One program welcomed me with open arms because they are the ugly step-child program and typically get the bottom of the barrel when it comes to residents. The program even provided my lodging (in a empty floor of the hospital -- but hey, free is free). All I needed was an MOU. Worked out great.
