Since we think about food during down times in EM and I've tried both, are there opionions on which is better? This may be an East vs West Coast issue.

I've been to In-N-Out plenty since I live in CA, and they really are pretty amazing. Never had a 5 guys burger, so can't compare....

I have to say though, the 2 best burgers that I have had are at Louie's Lunch in New Haven (1st burger joint in US), and Father's Office in Santa Monica....

Surprisingly, I still haven't had a burger from Louie's. I heard they get offended if you ask for additional condiments.

Oh dude! You REALLY got to get there before you leave New Haven.

It's tough, because it's right across the street from BAR Pizza, so it is a tough decision to make as you walk there...Freaking good BAR pizza and a home brew, or a insanely delicious Louie's burger.....

Yeah, don't try asking for ketchup at Louie's. I think you get the idea since the staff wears shirts that have a ketchup bottle with a circle/slash over it...Believe me though, they are sooooo good, you really don't need to put anything on them besides what they provide.....

I favor In-and-out. You don't have the options like you do at 5 guys, but you don't need them.

In-and-out is for the purists, and consistently good every time. 5 guys is a good base, but with the options i find rather easy to mess it up and have a bad meal. And haven't found a combination that really adds to the burger.

And I second BAR pizza and a brew for thin crust. I am hoping to have to make a trip back towards New Haven and a little detour that way, but now that I've heard about this Louie's place I may have to change plans.

As a Californian who has lived in the East, I have tasted both and prefer...

(drum roll please)

In-N-Out. I am a purist actually...hate all condiments. So its just meat, cheese, lettuce, tomato and the bun and I like In-N-Out's flavor better. But its close...really, close.

Its all about the double double animal style, hey the cardiologists have to make a living.

In-n-out's animal protein style is pretty damn good... Five guys will make your burgers wrapped in lettuce as well, but it's just not as crispy and clean (the lettuce).

Five guys definitely has better fries tho. I dream about them every once in a while.

seeing that I've got a 5 guys about 10 minutes from the ER door, I'm a huge fan.

Burger is tasty, but you can't beat the cajun fries.

Maybe one day I'll get to try out one of these places... how about a sonic vs whataburger thread? lol

Not familiar with 5 guys, but I have tried animal style at In n Out - me gusta mucho.

As far as the other thread, whataburger >>>>> sonic. When I want a burger, sonic doesn't even cross my mind.

Has anyone here ever had Fatburger? I think their burgers are way better then in-out and they have like double the meat. Plus they have awesome fries (unlike in-out).

I think Braums does a really good burger for 'fast food'.

Where I come from, Genes Tasty Burger beats anything I ever had... its an old fashion big ol greasy burger. There is also a place in OK called The Meers Store that has longhorn burgers....they are top notch: http://www.meersstore.com/

And because In-n-out skimps on the beef to make up for the meat differential I order mine as so

Hell yeah. love the fatburger. And they have excellent shakes.

I find 5 Guys burgers and fries meatier. There's one 3 blocks from my apartment. But, my college diet subsisted on In-N-Out, so I actually think the In-N-Out burgers taste better. And, my wife is allergic to peanuts, so if we walk by 5 Guys and the door opens, the peanut fumes cause her to go into anaphylactic shock.👎

If I'm ever up that way, I'll look for Gene.

Never thought about Braums. I'll keep it in mind. Kincaid's is easily the best burger around these parts.
