Hi all,

I am a second time applicant this current cycle (514 MCAT, 3.5 GPA, 3.3 sGPA, post-bacc 4.0 GPA). I applied last year with 0 interviews, got advice from all my schools, switched jobs to Clinical Research, and was lucky enough to receive 7 interviews this cycle. Unfortunately, 5 have turned into waitlists, 1 is deferred (likely to turn into WL), and haven't heard back from the last. I was told in a few interviews that my essays, story, and experience were stellar- was told the cycle before that my LORs were all strong when seeking feedback. I believe it is my academic IA that may be holding me back- putting me on the waitlist rather than being accepted. I have sent an additional LOR to one of my top schools since that is what they recommended and have sent my one LOI (deferred school). As I am now waiting and trying to prep for reapp, my MCAT will expire for most schools (only 16 on the list left that will still take for the upcoming cycle). I am also looking into SMPs with linkage.

Any advice at all on what to do? It is too late for me to study and take the MCAT for this upcoming cycle (2025-2026), so my current plan is to enter a Masters and just apply to the 16 schools that will accept my MCAT so I don't have to sit out another cycle. Any help appreciated.

Thank you!

It would be really bad luck if you got 7 interviews but no offers. I don't know if you posted a WAMC before. Your success contraindicates an SMP.

If your MCAT is going to expire, then unfortunately you have to prepare for a retake.

Hard to say why you had bad luck. Either your interview performance was good but not great, and/or you lack expressing a proper mission fit or purpose as a physician.
