Hey everyone! I am a first time applicant, taking a gap year. New grad with B.S. in bio. My stats are cGPA: 3.9, sGPA: 3.86, MCAT: 503 with a 125 or above in each section. LizzyM score is a 66. I have been working as a CNA for 3 years with hours between part and full time, first gen college student, and currently volunteer at a hospital. I have some shadowing experience with a DO family medicine physician, and have taken a course that allowed us to shadow various hospital departments. I have good relationships with my professors so I am assuming strong LOR from them. I live near Chicago as well.

The schools I'm thinking of applying to are Loyola SSOM, Rosalind Franklin, SIU, CCOM, MUCOM, LECOM, DMUCOM, and RVUCOM-Colorado.

Would I have chances of acceptance at these schools? Or does anyon have experiences with them that could lean me to choosing other schools?

Thanks!

The MCAT score is circling the drain for MD. I suggest:
Loyola

VCU

Oakland U Beaumont

WVU

Uniformed Services University/Hebert (just be aware of the military service commitment)

Your state school(s).

Any DO school. I can't recommend Touro-NY, LUCOM or Wm Carey, for different reasons

If you wanna go DO follow what @Goro said.

If you wanna go MD you can apply to the schools that @Goro listed, but if you think you can score better on the MCAT - talking 511-513+ you're honestly a sure shot for many MD schools, granted you interview well. You said you're taking a gap year, what are you planning on doing? If it sounds appealing, I'd suggest adding MCAT prep, but not unless you think you can increase by 10 points.

I don't think I would be able to take a prep course because I plan on working and volunteering more. This is my second MCAT score, and quite honestly I cannot afford more prep or another test on top of applications. I'm perfectly fine with going DO as well as I feel I can apply myself to osteopathic values.

Then apply broadly to many DO schools including the new ones opening when you apply and you should get a few acceptances if you interview well.
