I took the first AAMC practice test and got 515. On my previous kaplan tests I was getting in the mid 500's and though it's been a few weeks of studying since then, I am still hesitant to believe that this practice test score is predictive of my ability. I'm encouraged but a bit worried that it was a fluke, considering that I don't feel in my gut that I'm comfortable with all the material, though the AAMC test did feel a bit easier than the kaplans as I have read. My friends who are applying this cycle told me to just go ahead and take it with that score but I am not convinced. Should I just hurry and register to take the test at the end of this month or should I finish the remainder of my study materials (I have 2 more kaplan practice tests and 2 more AAMC tests, as well as the 'question packs' or whatever) and plan to take the exam at the end of june? I have no one advising me really so I'm hoping some of you will have a better idea of how I should proceed.

Thanks for your reply. It just feeels so much like a fluke, you know what I mean? Maybe its just that it is hard to ever feel comfortable with the amount of material that the MCAT requires you to know. Like most premeds, I want to feel comfortable with my level of competence and I want to imagine my situation as a 'sure bet' but that can never be the case.

AAMC tests are the only practice tests which will give you a good idea of where you stand. 3rd party companies like Kaplan are not predictive. Your 515 is great.

As above said, finish the AAMC material. I stress the importance of the Section Banks. Especially as it comes to B/B.

From a personal view - if you are going to feel rushed taking it at the end of this month, don't. You need to feel confident entering the test, not like you're at a disadvantage. I'd take it when you were planning on it, crush a couple more practices, sure up your content knowledge and score 520+.

You could probably get away with not doing all/any of the qpacks. Do the section bank and the aamc FL1+2/sample FL for sure though. Most people in the 5/13 said their test was comparable if not worse than the section bank

It's not a fluke. TPR and Kaplan deflate your score to kill your spirit (yes, I mean it). Trust the AAMC. You're doing great and you'll do great on the exam! 🙂
