Just curious. I scored a 518 on my COMLEX 1 and I am thinking mostly about going into Peds, maybe OBGYN. Is this score good enough without taking the USMLE? Any thoughts/advice is appreciated!

For peds yes, for obgyn will be very difficult with a below average comlex, there’s around 26 former aoa programs but these will likely want a higher comlex. Having no step hurts a lot for obgyn.

I think your chances of matching ob/gyn are very poor and would not advise you to apply to the field without a backup specialty or taking the USMLE

OB/GYN residency chances are slim.
Maybe next best option is going FM and then doing OB type fellowship or equivalent.
I know an FM doc who does C-sections, etc. so you can still get there, just diff (and longer) route.

Peeds you're fine for academic places.

To echo the above, for OB, you're going to need step, especially with that COMLEX. Peds you'll be fine as is.

pediatrics is a DO friendly field, OB not so much. You can look up lists of programs, and the programs will tell you on their website if they are ok with COMLEX or not.

I wouldn’t say OB isn’t DO friendly, it’s is but you need the scores for it as it is more competitive then peds. >220 on step 1 gives you a great shot at matching OB as a DO according to the 2020 charting outcomes.

look at average scores and be realistic.
