...a FRAPpuccino that is..haha. but in all seriousness my test was defintely full of surprises score wise. i dont know what to say. i used destroyer, kaplan BB, Cliffs AP bio, CDP, ochem as 2nd lang.

PAT: 19 (i heard UOP doesnt take less than 20? or am i just making this up) kinda disappointed in this one 🙁
QR: 17
RC: 21 🙂
BIO: 17 😡 im a bio major too.
GC: 19
OC: 20

TS:18
AA: 19

Brief BREAKDOWN
PAT: very similar to CDP..BUT ANGLES were really hard on my DAT...like how some of CDP angles are 4 degrees off.. Pattern Folding..was ok but i had some obscure ones that folded into literaly an origami monster. everything else like CDP. [CDP scores i usually got 20 or 21]

QR: worked fast. finished in time but had to guess on a few and probably some carelessness cus im working fast..i think thats what got me a 17

RC: search and destroy FTW. seriously. i had no ethics/piano. straight up normal passages. few tone/non-straight-forward questions. didnt do kaplan map..BASICALLY read question and go straight to passage to find answer.

BIO: 😡😱SOOO SAD! when i was taking it..i didnt thnk it was that bad! i must have real messed up. i really only didnt know 3..so i guessed..everything else i thought i knew. destroyer was helpful i guess..but the test had nothing that detailed like destroyer. no taxonomy for me. pretty fair Qs..so im really surprised/disapointed in my score.

GC: didnt know like 3Qs so i guess my 19 is about right. destroyer was helpful, DAT only had basic calculations or set it up for you. little bit of concept Qs not much

OC: TIME PRESSURE..i had like 25 minutes left and started picking up the pace A LOT. but i got a 20. had 2 NMR and 1 IR. so know that stuff. not many concept Qs maybe 5.

PLEASE let me know my chances (or what schools i will have a decent shot)
my calculated science GPA is like 3.12 and overall probably 3.3-3.4 (didnt calculate in my CC classes; took a good amt senior yr in HS. NON SCIENCE class though)

I'm really scared about how my chances are esp b/c of low science gpa and avg DAT. please be honest. im a CA resident at a UC school. thinking about BU, Tufts, NYU, UOP, Western, (UCLA, UCSF just cus im from CA), ASDOH, UNLV?, where else should i look at?

ECs are really good. my profs who wrote my recs were really impressed. shows entrepreneurial and managment leadership, athletic (club sport), 100hrs+ volunteer, dental shadowing/assisting, etc

RECS: probably very good..but nothing that will WOW adcoms. it makes me think recs dont do much for you unless your prof says you were his best student.

ESSAY: working on it.

Nicely done! Not bad IMO, but that Bio section looks a little sketchy. I'm sure you'll get a couple of interviews as long as you apply early.

BTW...How long did you study for? Did you do any practice test?

if you want an honest opinion...

@Emmie: yes, i would like honest opinions. im just looking for target schools that i have a decent shot with..and if that was your way of saying i have no shot..then well thats fine, but you could have been a little more considerate...

Practice stuff i used=

Bio: cliffs, destroyer
to be honest, i dont think you can be very prepared for this section. you either know it or you dont. for example i didnt know the diff between myosin and trypomyposin (sp?). so i guessed that one. nothing much came out of familiarity from destroyer. so im not sure if it really "helped". if it did, i probably knew it from being a bio major already.

chem: did destroyer twice and read Kaplan BB. standard questions. minimum calculations. some conceptuals.

ochem: did destroyer twice and read Kaplan BB. BUT i had to look up NMR and IR problems b/c kaplan and destroyer lacked in this area. basic NMR and IR stuff though, so if u know C=C reading is or C=O, OH, etc and can recognize it on IR youre fine. For NMR know neighbors and splitting. symmetry.

i didnt use topscore or achiever so...i never really calculated any scores besides CDP (i got 20-21s). I just timed 30Qs for ochem and gchem and 40Qs in bio and treated taht as a test.

OK! So, don't take this as a personal attack on you. Since you're looking for an honest opinion, I'm just gonna lay it out for you. Honestly, I think the only cali schools you might have a shot at with these scores are:
-Western
-USC
-Maybe Loma Linda

Your PA score is not low, but it's not high enough to get you into UoP either. I mean if you had a killer AA, you could've gotten away with that PA score, but the problem is that both your GPA and AA are below what UoP is looking for.
Same goes for UCLA. With a 3.12 GPA and AA and TS in the 19s your chances are very slim (Bear in mind that UCLA's average DAT is 22, PA 21. So, there will be some people with 23+, lots of people in the 21-22 range, some in the 20 range, and very few in the 18-19 range). UCSF loves a high GPA, which you're missing. Now, keep in mind that UCLA, UCSF and UoP are among some of the most competitive schools here in Cali. So, you might wanna think about them more realistically.
NYU and UNLV sound like smart choices. You should probably stick with those.

Good Luck!

thanks nze! youve been really helpful on this forum! i appreciate the honest opnion.

what do you think about the other schools on my list: BU, Tufts, ASDOH...where should I look with my stats?

also...should i consider a retake with my DAT? im not sure how bad my scores are..since SDN members have such great scores

You're welcome!

I'm not sure about BU. But based on what other people say (not sure how accurate this is), people have gotten into Tufts with your stats before. Also, I think you should keep ASDOH on your list. I'm not sure how concerned you are with tuition, but if you think you can afford it, perhaps you should add USC to your list as well. Also, if you're best buddies with a priest or something, include Loma Linda as well.

I don't think you should retake. You're scores are AA:19 TS:18 PA:19, which are OK! I mean obviously, they're not horrible.
I think if you choose your schools wisely, you definitely have a chance this year.

Again, this just my humble opinion, which is based on simple observations and not any real scientific data. So, at the end, you must go with your gut and see where you'd really like to stay for 4 years. If UoP is your "dream school" then go ahead and keep it. You never know, you might get in! But at the same time try to be realistic. Obviously, you're a fool if you apply to Harvard with these scores. You get the point!

Best of Luck👍

Random question, Nze, are you male or female? Haha

haha, b/c I read your posts a lot. Sometimes I think your a male, sometimes a female. nze doesn't exactly give it away lol.
What can I say! I like to keep it "mysterious" like that:laugh:
But yea, the last time I checked, I was male! I'll keep you posted if that changes in the future:laugh::laugh:

UOP DOES take scores less than a 20. I retook my DAT in late Nov and I have 3 sections below 20s. 19RC, 19QR, and 18BIO. Have faith!!!! I got an interview there regardless!!!!Well it was for a waitlist spot but I took it!!! Love that school

I think your fine, good job! As peerless said, have faith hopefully it all works out!! APPLY EARLY!!! Good luck!
Faith might get you into heaven! However, I'm not quite sure if faith is gonna do much for you in terms of dental school admission.

don't jump to the conclusion! i haven't even finished my sentence yet. btw, how am I not being considerate?
