Hello all,

Would love some awesome advice here. I have a total of 6 C's in science courses plus 1 B-: Bio1,bio2, gen chem 1 and 2, organic 1, organic 1 lab, and now biochem. I was on an upward trend and just now received a C+ in biochem. I'm a bit older, sort of a professional student if you may. I took my sweet time through undergrad because I didn't care until I was about 27 then picked up the pace and got on the premed track. I am 31 now and about to finish. My plan was to take around 4-5 more upper level science courses and try my best to earn A's. And I still have the MCAT left as well. If whomever reads this is wondering why I have so many C's, I did not know how to study. And I had a solid B in biochem until my grandmother slipped and broke her hip at 91 during the week of the week which was 2 weeks ago. She is like my second mother so needless to say my mind was somewhere else while I was trying to study. I bombed the biochem final and it dropped me to a C+. I feel like I just ruined my upward trend I had going. I got a B in orgo 2, B+ in orgo 2 lab, B in intro to neuroscience, and an A in another neuro class. Any and all advice is so greatly appreciated.

Thanks everyone!!

What's your sGPA look like overall? That's a fair bit of Cs and it looks like too few As.

There's very little outside of an IA or criminal record that can doom you for med school admissions. All that changes is the amount of work you'll have to put in after graduating to be competitive.

With 6 C's in a majority of your prereqs you are not in a good place.
What is your science GPA? What A's do you have?

I'll be honest with you, from the preliminary info it doesn't look good.
I think your best option would be grade replacement and the DO route.
It would be that or an SMP

Sorry to hear about your grandmother. This depends on the rest of your grades and whether you are willing to retake. Remember, M.D. schools will average both the C and whatever other grade you earn, to my knowledge. D.O. does grade replacement, as another user already stated.

Consider doing as much damage control as possible, get into an SMP, and shoot for a 3.7+ at the SMP. Anything is possible. Like one poster said, as long as you didn't sexually assault someone, get caught with a gun in New York, or get busted with a fat joint in Texas, your medical school chances are still alive.
