I am using the mosby review to study for the exam and I am barely half of the book. I am not even close on being on chapter 3 and not even halfway done in chapter 2 which basicallly consist of Laws.

so much thing to memorize ..ugh..... and my exam is in 6 days.

I dont really have much time to study because i work and this is the only day that I can. * feel like stabbing myself* lol

How are you with math? If you're good with math and you know conversions (between mL, oz., tablespoons, etc.) you hardly need to study at all. Maybe a little law and procedure stuff and that's it. I studied for about two hours the night before the test and passed easily, so don't worry too much.

I hate math but I'll say I am about average. I know the conversion. Can you use calculator on the exam?

Memorizing the laws and top 200 hundrend drugs is just killing me. lol

6 days of studying is definitely enough time to be ready enough to pass the PTCB exam. The grand majority of the exam is math (proportions and conversions) and law/protocol. If I were strapped for time, I would study the law/protocol section first, math second, and the drug names last.

Drug names are probably the least payoff for the most work in terms of the exam. It's pretty much straight memorization of a hundred disparate drugs, but they only compose of a handful of questions on the exam. You could probably miss most, if not all, of the drug name questions on the exam and still pass so as long as you do well on the math and law/protocol section.

Now, if you do mediocre on the other sections, then that's a different story. But, 6 days is definitely enough time to ensure a passing score on the PTCB exam so as long as you dedicate time towards studying on each of those days.

Where I went they gave you a basic four function calculator. I also agree that memorizing the top 200 hundred drugs is not worth it. Focus on being able to do basic math quickly, and make sure you know the pharmacy sig codes as well...here you can find the most common ones http://www.rxinsider.com/sigs.htm

I passed this exam and I knew the laws somewhat, really knew how to do math and knew almost nothing about the drug names. When I got the exam, I almost walked out because there were way more drug questions than I was expecting. However, I passed with room to spare so if you can do the math, you can pass.

I'm not sure how many of you are taking this exam without working in a pharmacy.

The best thing to do would be to just be a clerk/uncertified tech in a pharmacy for like 3-6 months, that's adequate training for the exam. I actually aced that exam (finished in 20 minutes) and did not study from the book other than some procedures for IVs and nuclear pharmacy.

I'd have to say my 21 months of pharm exp helped me out the most.

Don't worry about it. I took the test after not taking a class or having a study guide. I took the practice test the night before, and used my wrong answers to study certain principles. About 3 hours of studying. Easy pass. You'll be fine

haha, the test is a joke! if your a college student! you should deff be able to pass! think, if a 50 year old lady who barely knows english can pass. So can you! ^_^

I just passed the test today. I used Mosby's study guide. The cd that comes with it is really helpful. I have not worked as a pharmacy technician or taken any pharmacy technician classes. I studied for about a week before the exam, a couple hours a night. I am mediocre in math. The first ten minutes into the exam is quite nerve racking. Just stay calm and you should be fine. Yay for passing! 😀

took mine on Saturday and passed. that book is over kill, just study all the math, law, and like the procedures that go on in the pharmacy and you will pass.

I take my test in a month. I've worked at Walgreens pharmacy for the past 6 months and I feel like I'm more than prepared for it. If you've worked in a pharmacy at all and had to do calculations on a daily basis, you should do fine.

(Also, I'm not sure how accurate this is, but the pharmacists I work with told me the drug names are of the most common ones that most people who have worked in a pharmacy would already know.)
