Anyone here ever hear of a physician being allowed 6 month early release from ETS date due to a pre-existing job offer? I know this is fairly common with our enlisted folks.

You might have some luck if that isn't 6 months of payback time. But even then I wouldn't hold my breath.

It's not common for enlisted folks if the time they are requesting is payback time for some special program/school/bonus pay/etc.

I had an O3 non medical corps who had an ADSO for education and the army let them out early by about a year or so. However that decision came down from the assistant sec of the army's office

Not likely. I haven't even really seen this in the enlisted folks. Several of the corpsmen and/or medics who are ETSing with school or job offers complain that they are going to be off-cycle due not being able to ETS early due.

It doesn't hurt to try. Submit your resignation request with your COs endorsement to the correct division of your services bureau of personnel. Do it a year prior to proposed resignation. The worst they can do is say no (while licking your tears and eating your hopes and dreams, of course).

Best care scenario, they say yes.
Worst case, they san no.
Most likely case: you give your CO something to laugh about. Which is nice.

I would go ahead and ask if you can be released early. Maybe some beaurocrat will mess up your paperwork and you can be discharged; otherwise, I would echo what everyone else has been saying. The military is not there to accommodate you; rather, they usually make things as difficult as they possibly can just to be a&*holes.

not only nope, but hell nope. in fact, if you can pull this off, I will create a golden sticky with your accomplishment. can't hurt to try I suppose, but be ready for some chuckles and raised eyebrows.

And perhaps a bit target on your back for the remainder of your obligation

I heard of an active duty physician released 6 month early due to family issues.

I also heard of an active duty physician being bought out of their contract due to reduction in force.

I have seen active duty folks released early a couple of times; one for school, the other for a job.

I guess, no one have seen a physician do this.

The key is, he wants to go early for something that's good for -him-. The military finds it both necessary and appealing to strike him down.

indeed, it is altogether fitting and proper that they should do this. lest the peons have hope, which leads to insolence.

A target on your back for 6 months? Who cares at that point. With that short amount of time left you are untouchable. Take it to the man!

You are so jaded. It's awesome
