Would it be Kosher to get the 6th edition of big robbins instead of the newer 7th? Has anyone seen both and know the differences? the 6th is going for 14 bucks at amazon!

thanks

I used old editions for lots of things in med school, but I splurged on a newer Robbins and I'm glad I did.

I don't know how great the differences are, but I'm sure there is some new stuff in there.

And the new edition gets you access to the online version, which is really handy.

I already have a 6th ed, and I'm planning on sticking it out, but I'm only doing so because 1. the 6th ed was FREE, and 2. my school has the 7th edition available online for all students. The online is kinda slow and annoying to navigate, but it's there. So far the content is basically identical, but I've only been using the book for a few weeks (first 10 chapters or so). What IS different is that the 7th ed has clearer/longer explanations, and it has more cartoon-style diagrams that summarize the info in the text (great if you're a visual learner, which I'm not).
My only real complaint at this point is that my professors often give page numbers in the lecture notes, and they are COMPLETELY different.

Honestly... the book is pretty much exactly the same from edition to edition. If you love going online and fiddling around with their web site, then sure, go ahead and get the newer edition.... Otherwise, it doesn't make a hair of difference. The last thing you really need is even LONGER explanations in a book that's long enough and that's also always been clear enough.

You might find out that you will never read your textbook. I have the 7th edition and have only used it for reference purposes. You can always look that up using the index. For 14 bucks I would say get it and if you find a desire to read a lot of small typed pages then buy the 7th edition.

I got the new edition for the online access and I'm glad I did. It's great not having to lug around that huge book everywhere.
