I'm not sure if there is already one, but I couldn't find any.

I'm about 1 month into studying but just did the EK PS 30 min exam. The microscopes and lenses caught me off guard =/

How is everyone else doing?

studying hard like you! I'm also using the EK material that includes the 30 minute exams along with the verbal 101 book. Best wishes for continued endurance - just never forget why you're doing this - I know that's what keeps me going 🙂

Hello fellow test takers. I'm using TPR materials to study for the mcat. Although I am struggling with verbal, just ordered a EK 101 verbal workbook. Does anyone have any tips on how to attack the verbal section? I think i'm going to try previewing the questions more before attacking the passage. Right now I only preview the questions to see if they're full of complex/hard question stems.

I like EK's method of trying to picture the author in your head and trying to stereotype what kind of person they are. They helps with point of view questions and such. Also try to look for words like "always" and "never" as they are usually wrong.

I just finished some BR Bio passages. They are so ridiculously dense and confusing. >.<

One more intense month to go until it all hopefully pays off.
god i'm gonna hate the physics/gen chem section so much

hi everybody, I had originally signed up for the 9/3 MCAT test, but decided to switch to 9/9 because of a class schedule time conflict.

Has anyone started doing FL's yet?

The date looks like a score distribution 😀 . Good luck to y'all.

hopefully our score distribution is a little higher than that 🙂

but yeah i am using the entire EK manuals. 1001/101 series and the GS practice tests (just to save my AAMC ones till the end)

edit: when are you guys taking your FL's, i decided to start takin them around august 11th.

I'm gonna take my first AAMC FL this weekend, i've just been doing TPR full lengths but I kinda wanna see how AAMC ones are.

Does anyone know if TPR tests are easier or harder than the actual MCAT?

I'm not sure if they're easier or harder, I've just heard it's best to do FLs using the AAMC since they're the real thing...best wishes!!

Hey hey fellow 9-9 MCAT takers!

I've been studying for this since May and I feel like i'm burning out a month before the test 🙁 does anyone have any words of encouragement?

I actually have started taking FL's...but i'm also trying to take 17 FL's of PR and AAMC before the actual thing, I'm just a horrible test taker so i'm trying to make it so it's just another test on test day. But I'm up to taking two FL's a week now and i'm just getting burnt out:scared:

Yo Persia8,

I used to play piano really hardcore. I found that if I was grinding a really hard passage or trying to memorize a really complex or long piece, I would often hit a plateau. I didn't learn more or get better despite lots of work...I was often "burnt out."

Usually, when this happened, I would take a break for a few days, maybe play some pop-piano, go do sports, just relax my intellect. When I came back, I usually found I was way better than when I started working hard!

You might benefit if you took a couple of days off! Go bowling, see Inception, do whatever your favorite leisurely activity is. Get your mind off of everything for a couple days (maybe take a long weekend so that you get three or four days in a row). Try to take real serious rest (i.e. don't think about the MCAT). When you come back, I'd expect your motivation to be higher and your scores to be better. This is one of the main reasons I think people take the day before the MCAT as a break: they want to be fully charged and focused when it happens.

Yes, I am also taking the 9/9. I am kind of in the opposite situation: I am grinding hard now but didn't grind so hard earlier. Working on PS and VR because...well, bio majors dont have as many problems with BS...:xf:

Here are some links that I've been using for VR:

Practice Articles: http://wepoplaski.wordpress.com/category/read-along/
A strategy: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showpost.php?p=6022602&postcount=96

I'm using Berkeley books and I ordered some EK books for a bit of extra content work. I tried GS but I think I'm going to stick with Kaplan practices and with real AAMCs.

So I just took the AAMC Fl 3 and I got a 30 =/

Most of the questions I got wrong were from PS but I think thats because of the weird timing set up they have for it. They show what question you are on out of total 146 questions on the test. This made me think that I had to do all 146 questions within 70 minutes. After I realized this, it was too late. O well I'll get it the next time.

I'm signed up for 9/9 as well! Hopefully all of this hard work pays off. How many practice passages has everyone been aiming to do per day?

So I just took AAMC FL 7 today to gauge where I am at, after content review.
Breakdown: BS: 10 VR: 11 PS:13

I'm pleasantly surprised with my VR score, Is it just me or does AAMC verbal seem kinda different from TPR /EK 101 verbal?

i don't know why you are bummed out. u got a 30 (which by all means is not a BAD score) one month before the test. which means u got plenty of time to improve.

you also screwed up w/ the time allotted so if you change that you are good to go.

Hey I just wanted to say thanks for your advice...It helped me out so much, I took the whole weekend off and it was so nice to not think about the MCATs. So I just wanted to let you know that I really appreciate your advice. I hope you do great on the actual test...good luck! 🙂

hey guys have you done AAMC 3 and can explain the question on the first part of the PS about the precipitation of anions when Pb2+ is added. I would think that the least soluble one would precipitate out first.

What's Shakin 9/9/10
I just registered for this date after getting my 7/8/10 score, 27Q.

PS: 07 (ran out of time, apparently got distracted)
VR: 10
BS: 10
WS: Q

Looking to bring up my PS on 9/9 and excited to buckle down with you all. Take care and study hard.

Anyone applying this year? **duck and hide**

Good luck to you all, and don't study too hard and screw up the curve for everyone!

Has anyone finished with their content review?

I have about

1 lecture for organic
2 lectures for physics
1 lecture for gen chem

then i am going to work on the 1001s series for EK and then hopefully start taking my exams within a week or so. which leaves me about 2 weeks of exams

i am getting kind of nervous. i have not taken a full length yet, and i hope i get a decent score first time otherwise i don't know if it will be worth taking the mcat...

Hey all! Hope everyone is studying hard these days!

A little less than 4 weeks to go! Will be taking my first FL practice test next week or so. For now I'm just trying to do the EK 101 Verbal .... at least an hour a day of that. To get a high score, you have to pretty much answer all the questions right. Yikes! I'm really hoping I can improve at this......

Physical sciences seems to be my strong point, I scored a 13 on my first Kaplan practice test yesterday!

I'm going to try a bio practice test tomorrow. My organic passages today were going quite smoothly, I got about 80% of the questions right, so I'm pretty happy with that. I have a lot of bio review to do, though...

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh this test is becoming stressful!

Good news!! I took EK#1 (verbal) and scored 10!
Actually, since I have the old version (85minutes per exam), I just completed 6 passages w/ 39 questions. I then multiplied my % by 60, and then used their score scaler. I got 32/39 questions right... Who knows if that would really get me a 10 on the real thing.

If I can keep getting 10+ every day in verbal up until exam day, I should be ready for the real thing :xf:

Yep... well not writing but "typing/clicking" hehehe

I'll be in Lake Forest for test day.

EDIT: typo.

So how are we looking? Still more than 3 weeks to go! (Thank goodness, I still have a lot of biology to review, and a lot of verbal to practice!)

I took a Kaplan bio diagnostic just now, my first one! Scored a 10, I'm stoked!!!! 🙂

I think I can pull this up with a few more quality study sessions :xf:

Verbal I'm still stressing about, however.... :scared: At this point I'm at around an 8 (maybe a 9 on a lucky day)

So I have taken AAMC 3, 4, and 5 with 30, 32, and 33 respectively. hopefully this upward trend continues until 9/9 haha.

On each one my verbal has always been 10; I'm glad about that. I can't seem to get past that though

Good job! I have some physics review and verbal review left. 🙁 Hopefully I can take my first practice test sometime this week! :xf:

Awesome job! You're right where I hope to be next week or so :luck:

I'm feeling better about my verbal these days! The Examkrackers 101 VR passages has been helping I think, I am around a 10 🙂 Still more than 3 weeks, we've got this! Just have to keep a reasonable pace... 👍

Oh man... I just applied for this examination date, and I barely started studying! I only have a week left until school begins as well... 3 weeks to study, 2 of them during school.

I dug myself a deep hole :[

Your first week of classes shouldn't be too busy, and during your second week you'll want to just be polishing up/tapering anyway! :luck:

how are you guys doing?

I am on the 1001/101 series. hopefully plan to take my first FL on sunday. I was thinking to use GS since i heard they are pretty good. I think I will save the AAMC ones till 2 weeks. take one every other day. anyone think this would be counterproductive? or should i start w/ aamc. I don't feel too confident w/ my content hence why i want to master it by doing the 1001/101 for EK, so i can maximize my AAMC score.

feedback is appreciated. 🙂

Thanks, I'm doing well! I've been doing examkracker's verbal passages, and getting 10's ! 🙂 I am feeling a little less stressed now
I'm going to attack more bio and ochem tomorrow, I want an 11 on my next practice test :xf:

I think you should not take so many practice tests. I will personally be using at least 2 days of rest between, to analyse where I went wrong and review my weak spots. Just an opinion 👍

At first I thought you were replying to yourself and I thought that was weird, then i realized you two just have rings for pics. lol.

Personally i'm starting 2 exams per week, with review of weak areas in between and verbal practices.

For those of you who are using the EK materials..

is anyone finding the BIO (30-minute exams) a little difficult?! lol hopefully i am not the only one. :scared:
