90% vs 99% average student

hey i have a question about gpa

so whats the point of getting a 99% average if a 90% average give u the same gpa of 4.0??


also, did most med students get around 80-90% weighted average in university? or do they get higher? ( i know their gpa is around 3.7-3.9ish for decent schools)

Not all classes are graded based on a set scale. Some classes are curved and then there are also classes where prof. are only allowed to give out a certain number of A's,B's and C's. In these classes a 90% doesn't gaurantee you an A at all.

In undergrad there is no such thing as a weighted grade. An A is a 4.0, a B is a 3.0, and a C is a 2.0. +/- values are different values depending on the school. At mine, an A- is a 3.7, B+ is a 3.3, B- is a 2.7,C+ is a 2.3 etc.

A lot of people aren't merely gunning for the minimum required to achieve an A grade. High A's might just be some byproduct of a passion for learning.

i dont think people just aim for a 90% or or 99% specifically. they just aim for an a, and sometimes, its a high a and sometimes not.

As far as GPA is concerned, nothing.

If you really like the material... hey, whatever floats your boat!

sometimes its better to shoot for a 99%... if you shoot for 90% you might mess up on a final or sumthing and fall to a B

It's not 90 vs. 99. If you can get a 99 with minimal work (usually requiring a bunch of shortcuts) someone will go looking for it.

Instead, it's usually, student who does well from the beginning vs. student who fumbles on one of the tests (usually the first).

like another person posted, at my school any grade between 90-94% will get you a 3.7 and not a 4.0. its rough and i wish the grading system was like it was back in high school.

if you asked the difference between a 99% and a 95% it would be nothing in terms of grade points. just tthat 4 percent you may have missed on a test or an assignemnt or something
