Hello,
I recently stumbled upon this website and I am very grateful that something like this exists. I found a lot of interesting and useful information, but I do have one very important question, for which I cannot seem to find the answer. First of all, I recently got my B. of Sci. in Psychology, thinking I would want to go to graduate school. After a loooot of thinking, I found out that medicine is actually something that I have been secretly dreaming about, but never thought that I could do. I also know that you don't have to have a degree in Life Science or something similar and close to medicine, in order to go to medical school.

However, my problem is that I didn't have biology or chemistry classes during my college career (I had some classes in elementary and high school, but I'm from a different country, so it's like I've never taken them, since I learned everything in a different language).

I am now confused whether I should take those 6-7 necessary classes, so I can take the MCATs, OR, if I can just study those subjects on my own and than take the test?

Another question is if those classes are necessary, would it be smarter to take only them or to actually make up whatever classes are needed to obtain another bachelors degree (something more related to medicine, like above mentioned Life Science or Human Biology, etc)?

Thank you for your help!

I believe all schools have prereqs that usually fulfill those necessary classes for the MCAT. I would recommend a physiology course as well before taking the MCAT.

it is fine to just take the bio and chem classes, you dont need another degree.

and yes you definitely need to take those because those are not just requirements for mcat, those are requirements to get into med school.

something along the lines of:
1 year of phy with lab
1 year of gen chem with lab
1 year of orgo with lab
1 year of bio with lab

there might be a few more reccomended ones, but the once above are pretty much required everywhere i think.

These are the one that I read that I needed and I did take one semester of physics, so that makes it at least a little easier. I was confused with the transfers and the classes that don't count towards any degree, so I didn't know if medical school actually accepts them. I guess I can always check with the college, but I just wanted some advice before I start the actual "quest".

Thanks a lot!

I did have a physiological psychology.
I don't know how much that would help, but it was a very in-depth class.
I guess it all depends on what they have at this University.

I'm feeling a little more confident now!
Thanks! 🙂

Just check the schools to make sure they don't have any special requirements like calculus, biochemistry, genetics, ect. There are a few schools out there but not many. good luck!

I did have calculus, but not these other classes. I checked the Midwestern University, and the ones that I listed are the ones that are required, so I hope there is nothing more complicated. Thanks! 🙂
