Another example- I have friends I served with that ride that PTSD bs. Some people have it, to the point of being debilitating, but most are full of sh. “please be courteous with fireworks” but had no combat deployment type people. We all got told we had PTSD.
Had a patient a few months back and when he found out I was a combat vet wanted to share stories. Yeah well this guy was full of 7.62 rounds, showing me all of his old war wounds, and had uneven pupils from an explosion during Vietnam. I told him “yeah we got shot at so we lit them up, and it wasn’t even really a fair fight. They were just like cattle for the slaughter. And they were a few hundred yards away so it wasn’t the same as having someone right on you” (hell half of the time it was some kids dropping some mortars on us and running, and an Apache would just do a gun run on em. No direct contact at all.)
As time goes on, the less war is “up close and personal” but some people still try to ride that train.
Now THESE people, that have actually experienced mental trauma, they don’t even mention it to others. He mentioned it to me just incase he woke up and got confused in the night, and was actually embarrassed about it.
