Hey guys,
I posted regarding this problem many times, but i am still not satisified. I did 2 year in a community college and currenly I am a Junior at a 4 yr univ. I have not yet taken the MCAt. I am taking the TPR in the summer and the MCAT this august hopefully. I dont have many Ec's except that I did like 70 hours in the ER, about 20 hours in a nursing home (doing it still) and was the Biochem professors Assistant. I am thinking of shadowing doctors this summer but I dont know where I can find doctors who are willing to be shadowed. Do you guys have any tips about that? I called my local hospital's Human resource center and volunteer service to see if they had an answer; i left a message today, so might get a reply tomorrow. I dont think I should be applying this August to Medical school because I have not taken the MCat yet and I dont have superb ECs. My GPA isn't too bad at a 3.92 Also, i have thoughts about doing an EMT-B course this Fall and maybe work the following Spring. But i am not sure. I know that I should be concentrating on my MCAt this summer, but I cant study like 16 hours/day. What do you guys recommend i should plan to do this summer that would be helpful in my career and perhaps look good on my application. I am really against taking a year off before starting med school because due to my family situation, it is necessary that I start working ASAP, but if I have no choice, i have no choice. I would appreciate any help. Thanks

You know what... I honestly think you should take time off... ie relaxing/traveling... I think that would give you something to talk about in your interviews... OR if you don't like that advice... Look into programs where you can learn a second language in a foreign country or something like that... I looked into Guadalajara SOM program in Mexico just to keep current in my Spanish 👍

I think you should

1) Wait a year and boost your EC's (remember that the last six months before applying will be considered "fluff", so plan your EC's carefully

2) Talk to your doctor about shadowing him/her.

3) Do something that will distinguish you from other people -- perhaps something in the arts.

good luck!
