I am just looking for some tips on how some of you got to know your professors enough to ask for a LOR in a class of over 100 students? I am looking to apply next year and am trying to figure out where I will get letters from. Any tips?

Also, I hope to get a committee letter as well. Does this take the place of a LOR? Or do I still need to submit the 3-4 letters that schools require?

Sorry, I know there have been a ton of threads about this, but I couldnt find direct answers to these questions when I searched.

i got 3 letters from professors.

1 i got because i researched with him.

2 i got because i had to meet with him to talk about teaching strategies. i worked as a study group leader for the "learning center." my school has a learning center that offers tutoring and study groups. as a study group leader we were required to meet with professors to discuss ways to better help the students. i taught biology study groups so i met with the biology professors teaching that quarter.

3 i asked one of my physics professors. i just went to office hours a lot and got an A+ in his class.

i hoped that helped.

my school didnt have like a pre-health commitee to write letters.

but i think it depends on the school. i think some schools will collect letters from you and write a letter from all the letters. they might also do an interview with you and make sure you are a strong applicant. again, i dont know a lot about commitee letters.

it's easiest to go about it if they know you and have a relationship with you (either office hours or working with them). Committee letters replace all the LOR's you'd need to get, but I think they take a while to get.

I got mine from
1) PI
2) research collaborator who happened to also be my Cell teacher
3) Dentist I shadowed
