Hey guys I was wondering if anyone could provide me some info on this, it would be extremely appreciated.

1) I am planning to take 2 first year science courses as I enter my third year of my science program. This is because I recently found that kin and geology count towards your science GPA, so I am trying to boost it. What is the view of DO schools on taking non senior level courses in upper years? Does it really matter as long as I have my science degree and all the prereqs by fourth year?

2) Do DO schools care if I retake courses in summer school?

3) Also, in regard to taking lower year courses, is there a specific amount of fourth year science courses that I need to graduate with that DO schools want?

1) Goro could answer this better, but I would think that as long as the rest of your courses are upper level and you have a full semester worth of credits (at least 15-18 - 5-6 courses), you should be fine taking 1-2 lower level courses.

2) No, as long as you do better than your first attempt.

3) Try to take a good variety, especially those that are related to what you would take in medical school. I don't think there is any magic number, just don't skimp on the normal upper level coursework.

We don't care what you take, as long as you do well in it. You are especially expected to do well in upper level science coursework.

Nope.

Does it really matter as long as I have my science degree and all the prereqs by fourth year?

Nope

2) Do DO schools care if I retake courses in summer school?

Nope. We accept people who have taken the bare minims, along with Bio or Chem majors with >60 hrs of sciences. Keep in mind that some of those science courses will help you in medical school, like physiology and anatomy.

3) Also, in regard to taking lower year courses, is there a specific amount of fourth year science courses that I need to graduate with that DO schools want?[/QUOTE]

Thank you for the response Mr. Goro!

Edit: If I may ask one more question, what is the view of DO schools on an honors degree vs a non honors degree (such as just a BSc. Major in Bio)? Is the honors degree necessary or does it give you a better chance at all? Thank you!!!

*Ahem*

Dr Goro to you.

Thank you for the response Mr. Goro!
Doesn't make a difference.

I've always wondered this. Are you a PhD or a physician?

for all us pre-meds who are concerned, Goro is our supreme overlord and guardian angel. some say he's a myth while others believe he's real and slides down your chimney while you sleep at night leaving gifts of premed knowledge under your pillow. call his name three times and he will appear!

Leaving out a glass of milk and a plate of cookies won't hurt either! 😀👍
