Hey guys(and ladies),

I have a situation. I graduated in '08 with a double major in cell biology/neuroscience and Psychology. I have a undergraduate science gpa of 2.75, with a cumulative gpa of 3.01. I have 3 years of research experience at a medical school, a semester of shadowing with a interventional radiologist, honors society in Psychology, a mile long leadership roles in E.C's, and currently working full time at a clinical lab. I didn't take my MCAT's yet, I been scoring low thirties (I know that doesn't really mean anything) on AAMC tests. I currently have the benefit of tuition remission at Rutgers University because I'm a full time employee. Apparently, one of the UMDNJ's core first year medical classes are available for me to take as a non-matriculated, Gross Anatomy because it is crosslisted with a regular class. I was wondering in a hypothetical scenario that I take this class and get good marks, how much would that weigh? I understand nothing can cover up my horrible undergraduate GPA and many would recommend either Carribean or D.O, however I want to exhaust my MD options. What's everyone take on my pitiful situation? Sorry my post is so long. I appreciate your opinions! 🙂

You need to focus on your undergraduate GPA (both science and cumulative). You will be screened out by many MD and DO schools. Even if you do well in medical school gross anatomy, your GPA puts you at a serious disadvantage. Focus on your undergraduate science courses.

Your science GPA is below 1 standard deviation below MEAN sGPA for osteopathic APPLICANTS (3.24 SD 0.44)

Your cumulative GPA is below 1 standard deviation below MEAN cGPA for osteopathic APPLICANTS (3.39 SD 0.33)

Your science GPA is below 1 standard deviation below mean sGPA for medical (AAMC) APPLICANTS (3.40 SD 0.44).

Your cumulative GPA is below 1 standard deviation below mean cGPA for medical (AAMC) APPLICANTS (3.50 SD 0.35)
