Burner account as I'm absolutely paranoid about this coming back to me in a negative way.

I have Attention Deficit Disorder and throughout my undergrad, I always received extra time on exams and a quiet space to compensate for this disability. I have seen many times on dental school applications that schools will not discriminate against me because of my disability. I have a good GPA, good extracurriculars and and hope to get a good DAT Score. That being said, I am worried about disclosing my disability on the application. I am worried that some schools might look upon that negatively and not accept me because of it. At the same time, I am wondering if it might be important and or advantageous to list it as it might help me fill a quota.

I also am wondering about the DAT. If I get in touch with the testing center or the ADA, will I be able to receive extra time on the DAT as well? Would the schools be able to see that I received extra time and accommodations or would that remain private? Thanks so much

I don't really know anything so grain of salt and all, but from what I've heard I do believe you'll be granted accommodations, and I don't believe that schools would be notified. You'll get better information by just contacting the ADA and asking, though.

I really don't think there's any kind of ADHD quota. Unless it's a meaningful part of your story, I don't think I'd include it in your application. It is illegal for schools to discriminate based on disabilities, which is why they all note this, but implicit bias is real and this kind of discrimination is almost impossible to prove. I wouldn't risk disclosing your diagnosis.

Definitely don't disclose. If your application is in good shape, there is no reason to randomly mention it in your application. It can only hurt you imo.

FWIW, a good friend of mine has the same diagnosis. She is in medical school and recently absolutely destroyed step 1. She's doing amazing stuff. Just keep working hard and doing your personal best; you'll achieve your goals.

Agree with not disclosing on your application. Once you're accepted in a school, talk to the student services at your school and let them know that you have ADD and that you'll need accommodations.

As for DAT, you can disclose to ADA and get extra time if needed. They won't disclose to dental schools (at least I don't think).
