anyone else in this situation? i had a couple of interview invites very early on, but nothing since then. in fact, i've already completed all the interviews i've been invited to this season. and the clock is ticking.

Yeah. I got an interview invite at the beginning of August and it's been nothing since. But I was verified on 7/28 and I assume that first school is just way faster at processing their apps than anyone else - I got an invite less than 48 hours after I submitted my secondary.

yup- in the same position. got a few iis late august and September has been silent thus far 🙁 wondering if that's it for me- I know a few of my "safer" schools have given out a ton of iis, so I guess I'm not getting one. sigh.

also verified 7/28 and waiting to hear from many many schools still.... i keep hoping this week is the week.....

I was verified on TMDSAS around the same time and only heard from 1 school so far...

Have things slowed down in September instead of speed up [opposite of what SDN dogma predicts]?

For me, yes.

Same here! I was complete mid-July, and got all my ints in August except for one in early sept. I'm confused... does this mean that I should expect rejection from the schools I haven't heard from? Can anyone share their experience?

lol you guys need to relax. you can't predict when II's are gonna come. I got my first one in late sep and received them periodically up until jan-feb ish. So relax!

but yeah I get that you guys are ansty. I was super antsy when I applied. Goodluck everyone!

I got 2 ii in the two weeks after my app was submitted (8/10). It has been a month since then. Really expected to get a few more but who knows. Still hoping to get at least 2 more but glad that I got a chance to interview somewhere already. Really thrown off because of the quick invite and the early interview dates.

lol thanks for understanding the angst .. when were you complete?

They'll come in due time. You shouldn't be this worried when there are people that haven't even been verified yet.

got a few invites and then silence for the past month. Since I got an invite to one of my reaches, I'm definitely not complaining. but the silence is starting to be unnerving so I get where you guys are coming from

No - I think you're misunderstanding the angst. It doesn't matter when OTHERS have been verified; the question on all of our minds is, if schools go in order of applications received, does this mean that OUR applications are done being looked at?

Thanks hiyaman - anyone else with experiences?

That actually hurts your argument because many of those same people won't get in this year

Wow this thread makes me feel awful. Complete at most schools 8/22 because of a super late letter of rec and NO interview invites yet...applied to 25 schools and have decent stats. But good luck to everyone that has had interviews!! I'm also hoping to hear something this week or next.

8/22 is REALLY recent... I was complete 7/15-25 at most schools and am worrying. I wouldn't be worrying if I was complete late august! They're probably still sorting through the early august people. And the later you apply, the more drawn out the process is because schools are backloaded with apps to review before you!

As a frame of reference (your can check my MDApps) I was complete at nearly everywhere in late July with a couple scattered throughout August (some secondaries were very slow to come in) and I have a good spread of Reach/Reasonable/Safety, yet I'm still at just one II at a very competitive school.

The angst is definitely justified. I constantly contemplate whether there are red flags all over my application that my II school overlooked. I mean, I have been complete at these schools for two months or even more...!

It's just frustrating, especially knowing that this year's extremely slow verification process stopped me from being verified at the start of the cycle in which it is often 'easier' to pull IIs.

In the grand scheme of things, this is akin to fretting about your Christmas bonus on a $250k salary. It might seem like a big deal, but you're doing a lot better than most people. Relax OP, you have time on your side.

Most definitely true.

I've gotten 6 interviews so far and flying out to all of them have gotten to be so expensive. Do you think that it would be unreasonable to fly out to all of them? Or would it be a shame to miss out on the opportunity to interview?

In general I would say no. Idk what every school does and I really don't have first hand knowledge of how the process works. From experience I received Interview invites to schools that had placed me on hold which would mean they're periodically re-reviewing people. The timeframe from secondary app sent to II is variable. Its not productive to keep worrying about it but its hard not to. Just be optimistic!

You can shave money off by grouping interviews (provided you can get the appropriate dates and they're reasonably close geographically).

I interviewed till I got accepted, leave no stone unturned lol. If you get accepted into a school you like then you can do whatever you want lol.

We don't know at which schools your II's are... however, general ideal is that it is a no-no to turn down II's before having an acceptance in hand.

As others have said before, it really is school-specific. That being said, I experienced something similar to what happened to you OP last year where I had a bunch of interview invites in August and September and then everything suddenly slowed down and you're suddenly feeling the urge for more, as if you're addicted to the high of getting an invite haha. But you probably could check each school's thread and see what their timeline is based on posts; there were a couple of schools that moved a lot slower and I got an invite from those couple in November and December and 1 school where my invite was in February because I wrote an update letter after fall semester.

It may seem like a huge rush getting those invites but you really shouldn't turn anything down until you've gotten into a school and then you know for sure you wouldn't pick the school you got the invite from over the accepted school. This is going to be a big part of your next 4 years and even more if you want to stay for residency and the last thing I'd want to do is start med school asking myself what if I would've forked a few extra hundred dollars to see if this place was the one.

That sounds reasonable. I suppose the short term cost is nothing compared to long term cost of not getting into anywhere because I was a little too optimistic about a school.

Thanks for the input, guys 🙂

exactly. it's almost like i'm addicted to the adrenaline of interviews. i'm hoping it's a school-specific issue. as a re-applicant, i know the dangers inherent in interviews after december.

Are you saying that interviews in January and later would put you in the... Danger Zone?
