If given the opportunity, should I do my Neuro elective and sub-i back-to-back? Or would it be better to have a breather in-between?

I also know that you'd want to do the elective where you're most likely going to apply for residency, but do most people do an elective at a home/local institution and then the sub-i at wherever they want to apply?

And regarding Psych and IM. Worth it do sub-i's in one of them or both of them? Or is it a waste of time? Psych overlaps with neuro in many respects so I'm curious if it's even worth it to the sub-i and IM carries the foundations of medicine so I figured it might look good if I do well on it.

Any help and guidance greatly appreciated.

I would at least try to do a medicine sub-internship or at least a general medicine elective, since your PGY-1 you will be doing at least 6 months of general IM and I felt like my sub-i was one of those times where my skills advanced pretty rapidly.

If both neuro elective and sub-i are super intense, then I might opt for a breather, but it's not a bad idea to do it back-to-back.. your neuro knowledge will be fresh in mind!

Away students are always at disadvantage because they are not used to the new system, staff members, Pt population, etc. Make sure you do the equivalent rotation at your home rotation for preparation.

If I had time, I would've done both med and psych sub-i, in addition to neuro sub-i. Medicine definitely is a great foundation for neuro.. and since most schools require medicine sub-i, it probably is a good idea to get it done before intern year if your school doesn't require it.

That was my thought!
