What brings most nutrients to the liver to be used by the liver? Portal vein or Hepatic Artery?

In terms of like a muscle in a cast, what atrophies to take down the muscle? Is it the neuromuscular junction? Is it the post synaptic part just doesn't get stimulated and goes down? Just wondering...
