Hey guys, I am looking to have a few questions answered, that after searching I have been unable to find. I am going to be concurrently applying for medical schools and either way I wish to end up with an MD, but because of my grades I fear that being accepted my first year (to an MD program) may not happen. My overall GPA will be around 3.4, with my science GPA about 3.2. I will have a biology major, chemistry and spanish minors. I am finding myself interested in the MPH epidimiology programs (Texas and Pitt specifically) and I was wondering a couple of things: How do my chances of getting in look? (I will have 1.5 yrs as CNA, .5 as phlebotomist, 1 year of hospital volunteer work, 1 year of non-human primate research, and great LORs. My projected GRE score is around 1100). Do I need to take the subject GRE for the MPH degrees? Will the MPH assist me in applying for MD programs the second time around if my GPA improves? Sorry for the long-winded note, but it is getting time to start thinking about the future...:scared:

You seem to have really great ECs that will be helpful for getting into an MPH program. The MPH may help you get into medical school, but that science GPA is still low. While the public health curriculum is fascinating and complementary to medicine, I don't know that it shows that you're ready for the heavy load of scientific information in medical school. Good luck though!
