Buy the freakin' MSAR!!!!!!

MSAR.jpg

For about $25 dollars you can have most of your questions answered!

- Which schools screen?
- Which schools have non-rolling (or rolling) admissions?
- What percentage of School X's students are:

- Out of state?
- Friendly to URMs?
- Interviewed and matriculated?

- What courses does School X require?
- What is the last MCAT that School X will accept?
- And so on........ad infinitum, ad nauseum.

I'm not trying to be mean, but a lot of you don't take the time to look this information up and instead post a thread. A thread where a lot of the time the information is just plain wrong! So do us all a favor and spend the money. It's the best $25 George Washingtons that I've ever spent in relation to the application process. And it's the official word!! You know that what's printed is approved by the school! 😀

Plus, as medical students and someday-to-be-doctors, you're going to have to get into the habit of looking information up on your own. After all, are YOU gonna trust PreMedWannaBeStanfordThugz4Life's opinion on the wards about dosing a potentially lethal med, or are you gonna look it up for yourself?

Peace.

YES!

I've been looking for another way to burn up cash in this process.

Thanks Evo!

I have one from 2002. I hope the date doesn't make much of a difference. It was $1.44 and I just couldn't resist 🙁

 good luck on this one, evo
 I know, pissin' in the wind and all... 😉

n00bs: yeah, it should be mostly good. Just be careful about the date of accepted MCAT scores, if that applies to you.

Peterrock: yep, it's already an expensive process to be sure, but at least this is the most useful thing you'll purchase this cycle.

If you use the MSAR to carefully choose the schools you're the best match for, you could save money on apps. 😉

i would recommend buying the newest one. schools can get janky from year to year, so best know the latest word.

word.

where in the MSAR does it tell you about rolling admissions-- can't seem to find it-

thanks!

You can even get it at your local library. I know mine had 2 or three copies of the newest edition there, as well as a bunch more at the other branches. Why pay $25 for something I will only need for a few months?

some cutthroat gunners actually stole the copies from the library at the medical school i work at. if i ever find those bastards, im gonna castrate them.

Me and my MSAR 2004-2005 are the BESTEST of friends....

Wasn't me. I already have 50 copies. RARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

It tells you whether or not its rolling by the date shown for decisions pretty much. Oct 15th = rolling. Feb = earlish March/April= all the way at the end

It never ceases to amaze me how some people can take the advice of a fellow SDNer as fact. When it comes to important secondary questions, or legal advice, or transcript follow ups, pick up the phone and call the institution your concerned about! That way, you know you can't go wrong.

This is sage advice people! I bought the 2005-2006 MSAR right from AAMC and I only paid $17.95 for it.

Anyone want to buy mine? $10 plus S&H...

Just send me a PM.

Yeah, I did this too, but they charged like $8 for shipping and handling!

the secret's out, i guess we can shut the site down now.

ha, the funniest thing is the people that are in the most desperate need of info and rely the most heavily on anecdotal info are the least likely to see this.

they'll just post another thread. i mean im not one to believe everything that needs to be said has been said already. post if you really need to know something and kind find it, or you want to get some specific feedback or hear some peoples thoughts or connect with some people in your situation, but how many times do you log on to find 2 nearly identical threads that are like 2 threads apart? because someone didn't even bother to look at the page, let alone search.

i don't think we need that search function, no one seems to use it.

its a good thing they don't work in creativity, intuition and resourcefulness into the medschool application. i'd worry for a lot more people.

i'm not sure, but some schools (e.g. NYU, Columbia P&S) are now AMCAS, so that may be reflected there.
also, i dunno if vandy always only gives interviews and secondaries together like they're doing this year.

that said, i doubt school's coursework requirements, mission, # of applications and # of acceptances change, among other things.

okay because i really want a copy but i'm not going to start applying for another 2.5 yrs. I just really wanted to know if i should buy it now or wait alittle longer, maybe until i was in my second year of college.

wait. like someone said, borrow a copy from the library, wait until you actually use it to apply to medical school, be able to write in the book and stuff.

Yes, please buy an MSAR. If you don't own one, how much do you really care about going to med school?

I must confess, though, my copy was outdated by 2 years when I applied, and I didn't run into any problems. Generally you can get updated info from the school websites.
