Hey you guys,

I'm a current dental student and I wanna share some advice for you all applicants. I know the process can be grossly demoralizing but keep your head up!!! Make sure to turn in your apps ahead of time, and you might want to consider getting into contact with the dental schools even after you submit your application.

For example:
1. Put yourself out there and contact your admissions director and ask for an opportunity to sit in on summer semester lectures if you are applying to a dental school in your city. This will not only put your name out there, it will give you a great idea for how dental school courses are taught and you will have an opportunity to meet current dental students.

2. Ask to volunteer or shadow in any research opportunities or observerships this summer, (again if you are close to a school near your area). More than likely, you might not be able to assist in the clinics due to HIPAA restrictions but you could get involved in some summer research. Don't be afraid to contact professors for such opportunities!

3. Do not quit your current extracurriculars just because your apps are in. You could be asked about these experiences in your interviews and you want to be able to talk in the present tense. Remember, quality over quantity when it comes to your extracurricular participation.

4. If it's near December and you still haven't heard from dental schools yet, go ahead and type up a very specific and straightforward letter to your school of interest. I can tell you in my personal experience for some of the Texas schools, this was well received..although I just received a "thank you for the letter" in return lol. It still made me feel good and I'm sure it counted for something.

If you guys wanna know more specific information or need any other advice, feel free to leave comments on my youtube channel that I just started "The Tooth Crownicles"... I want to start video journaling and sharing my DS experience with you all and be a resource to you.

Good luck to all of you!!

That's some good advice especially the sitting in on summer lectures, haven't heard of that before. Thanks and best of luck with dental school and your channel

Hey you guys, I've been getting quite a few messages in my inbox lately about personal statements so I went ahead and uploaded a new video on my channel about my advice for writing these. Check it out and hopefully, that will help most of you. 🙂

After your application gets verified and everything is in, how long does it take for the schools to respond and tell you they received your application? Some schools have changed the status to received/under review but others still say "None." I

I'm not sure for AADSAS schools, but for the TX schools, I heard back about 2-3 weeks after I submitted my TMDSAS application! Best of luck to you!

Good luck to all of you!!

I'd say late oct, early nov. I did it for one school and got an interview.

Do all schools have a writing portion as part of your interview day? So like a written essay and an interview?

Most schools don't have a writing potion. Personally I only encountered it at two schools (Case and UCSF).

What is it like? Is it one question? Is it written or typed? Do you remember some of the questions they asked you?
