A Non-Science Major

What's up yall!! I have a question for you, hopefully someone can answer it. I am majoring in a foreign language, rather than a science, but I am also taking al the science pre-req's. Honestly, do dental schools favor science majors? I have been told that it doesn't matter, but it seems that the majority of acceptances are sent to science majors, and maybe only 1 or 2 a year are foreign language majors.

They do prefer science majors. In 2000 I think 55% of the entry class had a natural science background. However, I have seen many cases where both dental school and med school choose students that are humanities majors because they seem to do better on the MCAT/DAT.

Get a good GPA, Good DAT score and do some research, shadowing, and finish all Dental school pre-requesites.
You will be all right. GPA> 3.5, DAT close to 20 or better,
and with all above, you are much better candiadate than
most. Liberal arts education is given very high consideration.

I'm still an undergrad and I'm a mol, cell, dev bio major. I chose it because I really like the material and subject.

I hear from many people that being a non-sci major doesn't decrease your chance of being accepted to schools. However, some classes required for sci majors (upper div courses) are somewhat similar to dental school classes. If one does well in those classes it might look good to the adcoms.

of cos, but diversity is also a huge advantage.
it is quite special to see someone both do well in science and other subjects such as politcal science, etc.

Thanks yall. By the way, I am majoring in Spanish. I lived in Central America for awhile and speak it fluently. I figured this would be a big plus for the reviewers. My plan is to graduate from dental school then begin making yearly treks to Central and South America doing dental work on the underprivilaged communities. Hopefully my dream comes true!

Please read "Gavin was not kidding..
GPA=3.5 and DAT 20 will give you interviews at many schools
now and you have a good chance to get admitted, but in few years with these numbers you may not get admitted. Its going
up and up......
