I thought I might just share something about the Kaplan MCAT review course. First of all they sell a book in the bookstore (I found it at Barnes and Nobles) (MCAT Comprehensive Review). It a thick book with review notes, a full lenght practice test and subject tests. Well, I found out the hard way that the review notes in that book are the exact same review notes that they sell in the course which you pay over a thousand dollars for. Plus, the full lenght test and the practice subject tests are also the same ones that are in the course. Kaplan also has another book they sell in the bookstore (I forget the name) but it is a smaller book with a full lenght test and some subject tests. They too are also the same ones that are in the course.

If your are interested in KAplan, it might be wise to save your thousand $$$ and make a trip to Barnes and Noble (Sorry Borders and amazon.com 😉 )

Seems like a rip off to me 🙄

well, the thing is that with Kaplan, you don't pay for that book as much as you pay for the 5 fully proctored exams, the smaller quiz things (i forgot the name already), and the diagnostics of where you're weak so you know where to concentrate. For me, that alone raised my score quite a bit. --Trek

i agree with Trek...
i saw that the books at the store and in the course were the same, but decided to take Kaplan anyway, because of the structure they impose on you, and sheer volume of practice q's in their library. also, i dont think i could take a full length mcat in my bedroom and do it "right".

It all depends on the person studying. I bought the exact same books that applicant2002 mentioned and then I did practice tests on my own (under the timed conditions and everything). I'm very pleased with my score. I'm glad I saved the $1200. It just depends on if you'll be motivated enough to study on your own. Some people just like the structure the course provided.
