My school lists "Intro to Bio" and "Anatomy and Physiology" as required courses that fall under the "1 year of Bio" prereq. Now, is that true..? Is that the same for all schools? Or, is A and P a "recommended" course?

I don't recall having to have A&P for my pre-med requirements, per se.. but if you don't have it for the MCAT you're definitely going in unprepared.

Where in the world do you get this?

The A&P needed for the MCAT should have been covered in your Bio II. If you had a weak instructor, I'd suggest you take A&P before the MCAT but if you don't I still don't think you're "unprepared".

OP: I think most schools just want 2 upper level bio classes for the pre-recs. Mine were Genetics and Microbio.

where did I get it? I went through the experience. A&P is not a pre-med requirement at my school.

we didn't cover any A&P in my general bio classes. Just like your school, I needed 2 upper level bio courses.. I decided to take genetics and physiology.

The answer to this question depends on whether or not you are referring to your undergraduate institutions prerequisites for a Biology degree VS medical school prerequisites. If you are referring to the latter, A&P is not required for admission to medical school. However, if you are referring to your undergraduate institutions requirements for a Biology degree, you may well be required to take A&P. At my school, it was an elective for those pursuing a Biology major.

If you are setting up a schedule, know your facts! Talk to an advisor at your school.

Yeah, "one year of bio" means biology I/II, anatomy excluded.

That said, I'm taking a&p 1 and 2 for a variety of reasons; it doesn't hurt that they're additional biology electives for my non-biology major, of course.

Yeah, be careful. Most med schools will NOT count A&P into the one year of general bio.

But I have to agree with the other guy, if you take physio before the MCAT it will help so much. You REALLY briefly go through physio in general bio, but its not really at the depth you need.
